XDUI 2015: EICS Workshop on Systems and Tools for Cross-Device Interfaces

The goal of this EICS 2015 Workshop on Cross-Device User Interfaces (XDUI 2015) is to bring together leading and upcoming systems researchers in the area of cross-device interfaces and define a research agenda together. XDUI 2015 aims not only to be useful for the EICS research community, but for the wider HCI community, where many recent cross-device systems and tools have been developed and investigated almost in parallel without learning from and building on each other.

To foster discussion among participants, the idea for this workshop is not to have a mini conference, but to have a hands-on and demo-heavy event to which participants can actively contribute by showing and discussing their research prototypes related to the topic.

The workshop targets both new and established researchers in the area. New researchers will quickly get an overview of the state of the art, while established researchers can draw more detailed comparisons between their solutions and discuss benefits and limitations.

This workshop will provide a unique opportunity to exchange implementation experiences, discuss technical concerns of existing solutions, sketch the design space of possible cross-device interfaces and discuss open issues as well as important future research directions.

ORGANISERS

Michael Nebeling, Carnegie Mellon University
Fabio PaternĂ², C.N.R.-ISTI
Frank Maurer, University of Calgary
Jeffrey Nichols, Google

DATES & VENUE

The workshop will take place on 23 June 2015 and will be collocated with EICS 2015, the 7th ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems, taking place in Duisburg, Germany, 23-26 June 2015.

PARTICIPATION

Statements of interest: 24 April 2015
Notifications of acceptance: 8 May 2015

This workshop is not seeking research or full position paper submissions. Rather, potential participants only need to submit a short statement of interest (1-2 pages) describing their background and interest in the topic. Please indicate whether you are willing to give a demo of systems and tools you have implemented, or are currently in the process of developing, and how you would run the demo.

Please submit your statements of interest to Michael Nebeling ([log in to unmask]) no later than 24 April 2015. Please include XDUI 2015 in the subject line. Notifications of acceptance will be sent out by 8 May 2015.
