                         IEEE ISMAR 2013
       Doctoral Consortium

Paper submission deadline: July 14, 2013

October 1-4, 2013 Adelaide, SA, Australia
        http://ismar.vgtc.org/ismar/2013/info/call-participation/doctoral-consortium

=========================================================================

The 2nd ISMAR Doctoral Consortium (DC) will take place as part of ISMAR 2013, on the evening of September 30th and all day on October 1th. The goal of the Doctoral Consortium is to create an opportunity for PhD students to present their research, discuss their current progress and plans, and receive constructive criticism and guidance regarding their work and future career objectives. The Doctoral Consortium is structured around doctoral students presentations and in-depth discussions between the students and mentors.

All submissions to the Doctoral Consortium will be reviewed with a view to selecting a group of students best positioned to receive and act on constructive feedback: the ideal candidates are those students who are in the early stage of PhD dissertation research or have just proposed their dissertation topic for their PhD candidacy. The best submissions will be selected for presentation at the ISMAR2013 Doctoral Consortium (private) and the ISMAR poster session (public).

Accepted students will receive complementary registration to ISMAR 2013. Lodging (shared room) and partial travel assistance may also be available.

Submissions/Format

Doctoral Consortium submissions should be no longer than four pages and include a clear presentation of their PhD research direction, including their current status, discussion of their PhD research in the context of AR/VR and related fields, a summary of the work done so far, and a plan for completion. Students should use the same format as is used for the main conference S&T papers.

The Doctoral Consortium will include a group dinner on Monday September 30th, and a full day of presentations and discussion by participants and mentors on Tuesday October 1st. Each student will provide a presentation detailing the details of their dissertation research and then receive constructive critiques from the mentors. There will also be time for discussing issues such as career planning, identifying productive areas for research and other topics.

The accepted students will be expected to create a poster (size approximately 3 feet x 4 feet) about their work, to allow DC attendees to quickly familiarize themselves with their research, and also to be shown during the conference poster session, providing further opportunities for interaction with ISMAR 2013 attendees.

Topics

We welcome applicants from a broad range of disciplines and approaches that align with the “Science and Technology” track of the ISMAR conference, including AR/VR, wearable computing, HCI, social informatics, information technology, cognitive science, and related fields. Applicants should be at or near candidacy (i.e. ready to propose their dissertation work or just after proposal) and be actively engaged in their dissertation research.
