SIGCHI Members:

SIGCHI wants to identify and honor the leaders and shapers of the field of
human-computer interaction. It has instituted the SIGCHI Awards to
recognize individuals who have contributed to the advancement of the field
of human-computer interaction. The three SIGCHI Awards are the CHI
Achievement Award, election to the CHI Academy, and the CHI Distinguished
Service Award. This message is a call for nominations for these
awards.

Current SIGCHI Award Recipients

These awards are presented at the annual CHI Conference. The current award
recipients can be found at http://sigchi.org/documents/awards.html

Criteria for the SIGCHI Awards

The CHI Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to individuals for
outstanding contributions to the study of human-computer interaction. This
award recognizes the very best work in shaping the field. It is awarded for
a lifetime of innovation and leadership. The criteria for the award are:
         - Cumulative contributions to the field.
         - Influence on the work of others.
         - Development of new research directions.

The CHI Academy is an honorary group of individuals who have made
substantial contributions to the field of human-computer interaction. These
are the principal leaders of the field, whose efforts have shaped the
disciplines and led the research in human-computer interaction. The
criteria for election to the CHI Academy are the same as above.

CHI Distinguished Service Award goes to individuals who have contributed to
the growth of SIGCHI in a variety of capacities. This award is for extended
services to the community at large over a number of years. Criteria for
this award are:
         - Service to SIGCHI and its activities in a variety of capacities.
         - Extended contributions over many years.
         - Influence on the community at large.

Awards Committees and Nominations

Two Awards Committees gather nominations for the awards and decide who will
receive them. The SIGCHI Achievement Awards committee selects the
recipients of the CHI Lifetime Achievement Award and elects individuals to
the CHI Academy. The current Chair of this committee is Tom Moran
([log in to unmask]). The SIGCHI Service Award committee selects the recipients
of the CHI Distinguished Service Award. The current Chair of this committee
is Robert Mack ([log in to unmask]).

The Awards Committees seek input from many sources in reaching their
decisions. They solicit nominations from the SIGCHI community. The
nomination deadline for the 2002 awards is January 31, 2002. Nominations
should be sent via email to Tom Moran ([log in to unmask]) or Robert Mack
([log in to unmask]). Nominations should include a *brief* summary of
how the nominee meets the criteria for the award, as well as the names and
contact information of people who are knowledgeable about the
qualifications of the nominee.
