Call for Papers for Special Issue of New Review of Hypermedia and Multimedia

                      Knowledge Organization Systems and Services

Special issue Editors: Doug Tudhope and Marianne Lykke Nielsen University of Glamorgan, UK and Royal School of Library and Information Science, Denmark

Submission deadline: January 16, 2006
Acceptance notification: February 27, 2006 Final manuscripts due: April 10, 2006

Knowledge Organization Systems (KOS), such as classification systems, gazetteers, lexical databases, ontologies, taxonomies and thesauri, attempt to model the underlying semantic structure of a domain for the purposes of retrieval. Traditionally the focus has been on construction of print-based resources. Possibilities for networked KOS-based services are emerging but pose new challenges in today's complex, interdisciplinary knowledge domains. This special issue invites contributions from researchers and practitioners who are engaged in rethinking traditional approaches to design of KOS, indexing services, cross-mapping, browsing, searching, personalisation, systems integration, update and maintenance.

This call builds on recent NKOS workshops at JCDL, ECDL and DC. More generally, we welcome submissions that fit the scope of the call from all interested parties and communities. All submissions will be subject to peer review. Advance indication of intent to submit is helpful.

The New Review of Hypermedia and Multimedia is published by Taylor & Francis and appears in both print and digital formats.  For more details and indicative topics, see the journal website and the full call for papers - http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/titles/13614568.asp
