        Hi all,

Here is a sampling of some of what is happening in the world of CHI Local
SIGs during the month of March (now also available online at:

Americas (outside the U.S.)
Chartered chapters in this geography: Brazil CHI, CapCHI, ToRCHI,
VanCHI, WatCHI (student), and CHI-Mexico. Prospective chapter:

ToRCHI (Toronto, Canada) will be hosting Mark Chignell, Department of
Mechanical and Industrial Engineering on Thursday 21 March 2002. He will
speak about: Why Individual Differences Matter in HCI and What to do about
them: A Modest Proposal.

Chartered chapters in this geography: SIGCHI Austria, BelCHI,
BulSIGCHI, Czech SIGCHI, SIGCHI Finland, Toulouse SIGCHI, SIGCHI Italy,
SIGCHI.NL, Universidade Fernando Pessoa SIGCHI (student), CHISPA,
SIGCHI Romania, and SwissCHI. Prospective chapters: SIGCHI.DK,
German SIGCHI, SIGCHI Norway, Poland SIGCHI, Russia SIGCHI,
SIGCHI Sweden and West Sweden CHI.

SIGCHI.DK (Denmark) wil hold on March 14th a half-day conference about the
challenges of interactions design targeting home and non-work situation,
and its annual general assembly.

SIGCHI Finland (Finland) organizes its annual spring seminar on March 11th
in Espoo, Finland. The program (in Finnish) is available on its website.
The seminar consists of an invited talk by Jan Blom, and several
presentations of hci groups in Finland.

SIGCHI.NL (Netherlands) board has decided, as of February 2002, that all
(board) meetings and activities and conferences to be held in English in
order to attract a wider audience in the HCI community in The Netherlands.
It invites for an evening event on 12th March 2002, with two speakers,
Harro Vons of Baan Company, and Karin Thomassen de Sosa of ABN AMRO.
Subject: "Usability in Practice of two companies".

Asia / Pacific
Chartered chapters in this geography: CHI South India and SIGCHI_NZ.
Prospective chapters: SIGCHI Korea and CHI Bombay.

CHI South India (Chennai, India) organized Easy2002, India's second
conference on
Software Usability. Easy2002 was held on January 7, 2002 at Taj Residency
Hotel in
Bangalore. An annual event in India, Easy2002 attracted an international
speaker and 100 participants including software/HCI professionals and web
designers from across the country.The Conference Chair was Pradeep Henry,
CHI South India Chair and Head of Usability at Cognizant Technology Solutions.
Like the first conference, Easy2002 received very encouraging feedback from
participants. "Quality of content" and "Efficiency of administration"
received the highest ratings.

SIGCHI_NZ (New Zealand) announces the call for paper for its 3rd Annual ACM
SIGCHI NZ symposium on Computer-Human Interaction. For more information

BayCHI (San Francisco Bay Area, California) announces:

  Its March tutorial on  Saturday, March 16, Designing for Wireless
Usability by Scott Weiss and Rich Martin. The tutorial will be held at the
Santa Clara Marriott Hotel, Mission College Boulevard, Santa Clara,
California.  The tutorial registration desk opens at 8:00 a.m.  The
tutorials run 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and include a buffet breakfast and a

  BayCHI North Bay BOF March Event will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 6-9
p.m (6 p.m.: Catered Reception; 7-9 p.m.:  Interactionary: A Design
Competition - Design Teams: Autodesk, Aaron Marcus & Associates, and Busse
Design; Judges: Katherine Maxwell, Richard Anderson, Nicole Lazzaro). The
meeting will take place at at the AutoDesk, McInnis Atrium, 111 McInnis,

  BayCHI Usability Engineering BOF March Meeting will be held on Tuesday,
March 19, 7:30-9:00 p.m. Vividence Corp., San Mateo. "Top Ten Design Errors
for Web Applications" by Raman Hansi, Peregrine Systems, Inc.

ConnCHI (Southbury, Connecticut) would like to announce the March meeting
for Wednesday, March 6th at 6:00pm.  This meeting will take place at the
University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT.

GatewayCHI (St. Louis, Missouri) will have a March Meeting (being held
jointly with the local chapter of the Society of Technical Communications)
on Wednesday, March 27th.  Networking from 5-6pm, business topics and
presentation from 6-7pm.  The topic will be "User Centered Design",
presented by Joe Haschart of Edward Jones.  The meeting will be held at the
Ethical Society of St. Louis at 9001 Clayton Rd.

MOCHI (Southeastern Michigan &amp; Northern Ohio) announces its March MOCHI
meeting with Paul Green from the University of Michigan Transportation
Research Institute (UMTRI) presenting "Human-Computer Interaction in Motor
Vehicles", on Wednesday, March 13th, 7PM-9PM. The meeting will take place
at 411 West Hall, 550 East University Ave., Ann Arbor, MI 48109
(Enter West Hall from inside the Diag archway, and take the stairs to the
4th floor.)

Puget Sound SIGCHI (Bellevue, Washington) invites for its next meeting:
"Integrating Usability Design Principles with Online Marketing Objectives"
