Following a history of very successful SAICSIT conferences, we invite you to
take part in the 2003 event. SAICSIT 2003 is an international conference
and contributions from all parts of the world are warmly welcomed. SAICSIT
2003 is to be held at the Indaba Hotel in the Fourways area, north west of
Johannesburg, Gauteng. The conference will include research papers,
tutorials, workshops and panel discussions.
Papers are solicited in ALL areas of Computer Science and Information
Systems. They should take cognizance of the conference theme and should be
directed at a reasonably general audience. We invite submissions in the
following categories:
1) Research Papers in one of the following categories:
* full research papers and
* short papers.
2) Tutorials
3) Workshops
4) Panel discussions
5) Postgraduate Research Symposium.
More details on each of these categories are provided below.
All submissions should be made electronically preferably in PDF format, but
original documents in LaTeX, MS Word and Corel WordPerfect will also be
accepted. All papers must, however, follow the Conference Publications
Format available on the Conference Website.
SAICSIT SUBMISSIONS WILL BE SUBMITTED TO A DOUBLE BLIND REVIEW PROCESS, i.e.
the review process will retain the anonymity of authors and reviewers.
A submission therefore consists of TWO SEPARATE documents:
1) A cover sheet for your submission containing full author details. This
cover sheet must contain the following:
* Full title of the paper.
* A 150 word abstract for the paper.
* Names and full contact details (between the submission date and the
conference date) of all the authors / participants, with the lead author
clearly identified. All correspondence concerning the submission will be
addressed to the lead author.
* Category of the submission: Full research paper, short paper, tutorial,
workshop, panel, or postgraduate symposium submission, etc.
* A list of no more than five keywords identifying the main theme of the
submission.
2) Your actual paper, consisting of:
* All of the above, but DO NOT include any author names for this review
stage, and as far as possible remove details which would make it obvious to
identify the authors.
* Your actual paper/tutorial/workshop/panel in the Conference Proceedings
format available on the Conference Website.
Submission implies a commitment, should the submission be accepted, to
attend the conference and present the paper or tutorial, or participate in
the workshop or panel discussion.

IF YOU ONLY WANT TO SUBMIT THE PAPER FOR CONSIDERATION AT THE POSTGRADUATE
RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM, MARK IT CLEARLY ON THE COVER SHEET OF THE PAPER.
Authors of accepted papers will be invited to submit their papers for
possible publication in the South African Computer Journal. These papers
will undergo a further review cycle.

Notification of Acceptances/rejections: 1 July 2003
Final camera ready version: 25 July 2003
PAPERS
Full papers:
Full research papers may address any area within the theme described above.
Submissions should report original work and must not have been published
previously. Full papers present significant intellectual and technical
contributions by researchers and practitioners to basic research,
development, and practice in all areas of Computer Science and Information
Systems. Accepted full paper will be published in the Conference Proceedings
as well as on the ACM Digital Library, after the conference, from where it
will be accessible to the international community.
Full papers must be in the Conference Publications Format and must be no
longer than 10 pages (A4, 10pt Times New Roman) including references,
appendices, and figures.
Short papers:
Two categories of short papers are welcomed: short research papers and
industry case studies. One page abstracts of short papers will be published
in the Conference Proceedings, while the full short paper will be available
on the SAICSIT website after the conference from where it will be available
to the international community.
- Short research papers are intended to allow space for preliminary work,
work in progress, or useful experiences, which are of sufficient interest to
publish, but which would not meet the review criteria for a full research
paper. Authors of full research papers that are considered by the reviewers
not to be appropriate for this conference, may be offered the option of
converting their submission to short papers. Short papers must also be in
the Conference Publications Format and must be no longer than 5 pages (A4
size, 10pt Times New Roman) including references, appendices, and figures.
- Industry case studies should be based on an experience or circumstance in
industry that relates directly to the theme of the conference. It should
highlight factors that contributed to success or failure, in such a way that
others may learn from it. Industry case studies must be in the Conference
Publication Format and must be no longer than 5 pages (A4 size, 10pt Times
New Roman) including references, appendices, and figures. Since SACISIT 2003
is an open forum, industry case studies should not contain confidential
proprietary information.
TUTORIALS
SAICSIT 2003 plans to host a tutorial programme. Proposals for high quality
tutorials in all areas of computer science and information systems from
academic research to industrial applications are solicited. Tutorial levels
may be introductory, intermediate, and advanced. Novel topics and topics of
broad interest are preferred. Tutorial submissions are limited to 2 pages
(A4 size, 10 point Times New Roman).
WORKSHOPS
SAICSIT 2003 will host a number of workshops addressing different areas of
computer science and information systems. Workshops serve as a forum for
exchanging late breaking ideas and theories in an evolutionary stage. They
typically focus on either in depth analysis or broad ranging approaches to
any area of computer science and information systems. Workshop submissions
are limited to 2 pages (A4 size, 10 point Times New Roman).
PANELS
Panel sessions addressing important and timely topics in computer science
and information systems will be included in the main conference. They should
present interesting and divergent views with solid practical and/or
theoretical backing. A good panel session can be the highlight of the
official programme for many attendees. Panel submissions are limited to 2
pages (A4 size, 10 point Times New Roman).
POST GRADUATE RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM
The Post Graduate Research Symposium is specially aimed at attracting
participation from masters and doctoral students. Submissions are limited
to 2 pages (A4 size, 10 point Times New Roman).
