CALL FOR PARTICIPATION AND PAPERS
Creativity & Cognition 3, 1999
Intersections and Collaborations: Art, Music, Technology, and Science
An ACM SIGCHI International Conference
Call For Participation
www. bashful.lboro.ac.uk/sigchi-wshop

In October 1999, Creativity and Cognition 3, an ACM SIGCHI Conference,
will take place at Burleigh Court, Loughborough University in Loughborough,
England. The first Creativity and Cognition Symposium was held at
Loughborough in 1993. It was a highly successful and internationally
acclaimed event. Creativity and Cognition 2 in 1996, continued the initial
aim of creating opportunities for artists, composers, and scientists to
engage in a dialogue about their ideas, and working practices. The third
conference will be an ACM SIGCHI event. Its main focus will be on artists,
composers, technologists, and scientists working in collaborative
partnerships.

Invited Speakers: Marvin Minsky, leading scientist, founding pioneer of
Artificial Intelligence, and author of "The Society of Mind"; Harold Cohen,
leading artist, early developer of computer based art and creator of Aaron,
a computer program that generates drawings and paintings

Proposals for the presentation and demonstration of collaborative ventures
between artists, composers, scientists, and technologists are invited.
These could take many different forms including interactive events,
Internet/computer based demonstrations and joint presentations. The aim is
to explore how the different viewpoints and languages of art, music, and
science have influenced or informed one another. Collaborative
explorations which have, in some way, moved beyond the existing technology
and led to new ways of working are especially welcome. The conference will
be a 3 day program of presentations, demonstrations, and poster displays.
