Designing Interaction for the Cloud, an ACM SIGCHI Workshop, Vancouver,
May 7th, 2011
http://lister.cms.livjm.ac.uk/homepage/staff/cmsdengl/cloud.htm
Cloud computing is moving from a buzzword to a set of useful services.
It promise the benefits of Computing as a utility, removing the
responsibility for infrastructure and software application management
from end users and organizations. However, the user experience (UX)
implications of moving to a cloud-based platform are not clear. In this
workshop we intend to bring together researchers and practitioners from
various fields where cloud computing is becoming an issue. We wish to
examine the impact of cloud computing on the user experience at the
individual and organizational level.
Suggested topics include, but are not restricted to,
- User Experience (UX) Design and the Cloud
- Challenges of the Cloud to UX research and practice
- Interoperability - goals and reality
- Personal clouds and multi-sensory environments
- The Cloud in non-commercial application domains, e..g medicine,
education
- Privacy and trust as a UX issue
- User Interface standards and processes in Cloud design
Intending Authors should submit position papers of 4-6 pages in the ACM
Extended Abstracts format. Accepted papers will be posted on the web for
pre-workshop discussion. Delegates will be asked to make mini
presentations in the morning based on their reading of other attendees'
papers, followed by afternoon group discussion to generate a list of
research topics and challenges. Papers will be assessed for their
timeliness, quality and relevance to the workshop topic.
Following the workshop extended papers will be requested for submission
to a Springer LNCS volume on Interaction Design for the Cloud.
Papers should be sent to [log in to unmask] by 14th February 2011.
Successful authors will be notified by 1st March 2011.
At least one author must attend the workshop and one day of the main
conference.
