Call For Multimedia Art, Entertainment and Culture Program
The 20th ACM International Multimedia Conference (ACMMM2012)
Oct 29 - Nov 2, 2012
Nara, Japan
http://www.acmmm12.org/
========================================================================

*Call For Multimedia Art, Entertainment and Culture Program*
** for Technical Papers and for Art Exhibits **

http://www.acmmm12.org/call-for-multimedia-art-entertainment-and-culture-program/

Overview To celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the
conference, the ninth ACM Multimedia Interactive Art Program will
expand to encompass a broader mandate under the umbrella term
“Multimedia Art, Entertainment and Culture”. In previous years,
the program has presented provocative installations and research
papers detailing advances in integrated approaches across the
arts, technologies, and sciences. In 2012, ACM MM will take place
in Nara, the ancient capital of Japan, with a rich history
stretching over 1,300 years. The Art Exhibit will be located at
Todaiji Culture Center, which is located within a few minutes
walk from several UNESCO World Heritage sites, including Todai-ji
temple and Kofuku-ji temple, together with the Nara National
Museum. Curated and juried works will be presented from October
20 to November 4, 2012 (tentative dates).

= Call for Art Exhibits and Technical Papers
The Multimedia Art, Entertainment and Culture Program will
consist of 1) a juried/curated art exhibition, and 2) a technical
paper conference area. We welcome original works and papers from
practitioners and researchers developing innovative approaches in
creating culturally rich multimedia technologies.

=Multimedia Art Exhibition
The Multimedia Art Exhibition presents integrated perspectives
spanning art, entertainment and culture. We encourage
participation by practitioners whose works address the
integration of multiple media forms, hybrid art, ubiquitous
sounds, space art/zero-gravity-space art, time-based work,
installations and environments, interactive media, digital
comics (manga), games/serious games, cultural heritage, digital
art in 2D/3D, digital communities, mobile media, digital art
performances, and aesthetic scientific exploration.

We welcome works that especially deal with fusions,
intersections, transformations, and paradigm shifts of the
current world throughout the old/new technologies; works that
provoke contemplation, address contemporary issues, and
interactively engage viewers in discovery and stimulate
intellectual adventure and creativity.

All submissions will be juried, and international works are
highly encouraged. All forms of digitally mediated works are
invited, as well as work created in traditional media that
comment on technology. In addition to the juried submissions,
this exhibition will present curated works as a showcase of new
perception, new media, and advanced technologies.

The jury will review submissions based on the following criteria:

   * Relevance to the ACM Multimedia 2012 themes.
   * Unique and creative uses of media or technology.
   * Depth of aesthetic, conceptual and critical exploration
   * Quality of accompanying technology system or artist statement

=Art Papers
We solicit full and short papers describing the innovative use of
digital technology in the creation, analysis or critique of
cultural and entertainment artifacts, environments and
processes. The successful submission should demonstrate
conceptual clarity and computational rigor, and indicate new
research opportunities for the field of multimedia at large. We
seek a broad range of integrated artistic and scientific
statements describing digital systems for cultural engagement
including, but not limited to, dynamic, generative and
interactive multimedia artworks; tools for content preservation
and curation; cultural heritage case studies; hybrid
physical/digital installations; mobile, situated and online
environments. We encourage authors to critically examine the
artistic, technological and cultural implications and impact of
their work, revealing challenges and opportunities of rich
societal significance.

All submissions will be peer-reviewed by an experienced panel of
reviewers. Accepted papers will satisfy the following criteria:

   * Novel computational and/or technology approach
   * Original concept and execution
   * Clear description of societal impact and/or audience reception
   * High aesthetic quality

=Submission Guidelines

=Art Papers
Papers may be a full paper or a short paper. See the Call for
Full & Short papers for details. Accepted papers will be
published in the ACM Multimedia 2012 Conference proceedings and
included in the ACM Digital Library.

==Multimedia Art Exhibition
Interested participants should submit a short
paper/description (2 pages) including images in standard ACM MM
2012 format, with the exception that the papers need not be
blind. Accepted papers will be published in the ACM Multimedia
2012 Conference proceedings and included in the ACM Digital
Library. The authors are also expected to submit the following
two materials:

A supplementary PDF file describing the necessary physical
condition for the exhibit (size of works, spatial layout, power
requirements, lighting condition, sound environment, Internet
connection and other special requirements). Note that the
submission system can accept only one supplementary file (Max
10MB). Therefore please compress multiple files into one ZIP
file for submitting the supplementary materials.

A video document, no longer than 3 minutes and playable in VLC
1.1.12 or higher. As the online submission system restricts the
size of the supplementary file to 10MB, print the URL to the
movie file in the beginning of the paper/description if the
authors plan to submit a video that does not fit in the 10MB
upload restriction.

Once accepted, participants are expected to bring with themselves
everything needed for their art works; hardware/equipments such
as projectors, laptops, sensors, PCs, and power transformers (the
local condition is 100V, 60Hz, Type-A; Please check the
description in Wikipedia. There are different definitions of
Type-A. The Japanese type is the same as 120V, North American
standard).
