-------------

We invite researchers and developers to join us for the Fifth International
Conference on Web Engineering (ICWE2005), which will be held in July 2005 in
Sydney, Australia, at the University of Technology, Sydney.

The conference focuses on the methodologies, techniques and tools that are
the foundation of Web Engineering and which support the development,
evolution, and evaluation of complex Web applications. Full details of the
scope of the conference are available at www.icwe2005.org.

The conference brings together people actively engaged in Web Engineering
research, practice and education from many countries, diverse industries,
and complementary backgrounds - enabling them share their experiences and
foster discussion on the present status of, and future trends in, this
rapidly growing field.

ICWE'2005 has a rich program of events, including an excellent suite of
research papers, a rich and diverse program of tutorials and workshops on
topics of current interest and significance, a doctoral consortium, panel
discussions and a superb social program. The highlights include:

- Keynotes by:
* Lars Eilstrup Rasmussen, the lead engineer of the team that created Google
Maps.
* Al Davis, professor of information systems at the University of Colorado
and a world leader in requirements engineering;
* Craig Errey, the managing director of the Performance Technologies Group
(PTG) and an expert spaker in user interaction design;
* Virgilio Almeida, professor of the Computer Science Department at the
Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil, and a leading researcher
in Web performance and capacity planning; and

- The conference dinner will be held at the world-famous Sydney Opera House,
with outstanding views across the beautiful Sydney Harbour.

- An outstanding workshop and tutorial program. Of particular interest to
developers will be the six tutorials on: i) Semantic Web Services; ii)
Measuring and Evaluating Web Quality; iii) Web Cost Estimation, Productivity
Assessment and Benchmarking; iv) Pragmatic Reuse: Building Web Application
Product Lines; v) Web Engineering: Managing Complexity; and vi) Engineering
Web Information Systems.
   Additionally, both developers and researchers will find the four
workshops topical and stimulating. The themes covered in the workshops are:
i) Web Information Systems Modelling; ii) Agent-based Web Engineering; iii)
Web Metrics and Measurement; iv) Model-driven Web Engineering; and v) Device
Independent Web Engineering.
   All the tutorials and workshops will be conducted by an international
roster of experts. For further details on all tutorials and workshops,
please check http://www.icwe2005.org/cfpWorkshops.html.

- The technical program includes approximately 70 cutting-edge paper
presentations plus additional posters and demos. It covers aspects such as
evaluation and verification, requirements, query and retrieval,
applications, web services, model-based development and frameworks. A sample
of the papers to be presented includes:
* A Need-Oriented Assessment of Technological Trends in Web Engineering
* Design verification of Web applications using Symbolic Model Checking
* Ubiquitous Information Retrieval using Multi Level Characteristics
* Web Application Development: Java, .Net and Lamp at the Same Time
* E-Legislative Services: issues and architecture approach
* Adaptation of Web Pages for Hand-held Devices
* A Model-driven Approach for designing Distributed Web Information Systems
* A Service-Centric Architecture for Web Applications
* The Semantic Web Services Tetrahedron: Achieving integration in Web
Engineering with Semantic Web Services
