-- Call for Papers ---------------------------------------------------------

Researchers in the area of intelligent environments try to embed intelligence
into everyday working and living spaces. To reach this goal they investigate
options to integrate smart technologies into ordinary objects within the
environment or by controlling the available infrastructure in some clever way.
The scale of tackled environments ranges from single rooms up to complete
houses and whole cities. The ultimate goal is the creation of environments
which support their users proactively and optimise themselves, for example
with respect to energy usage. Advances in the area of artificial intelligence
as well as in computer science in general should already enable researchers to
build truly intelligent environments. In the last decade, numerous projects in
industry and academia have targeted at providing intelligent environments and
produced an impressive count of showcase-rooms or even buildings. Researchers
from diverse disciplines, most notably Pervasive Computing, have been
attracted by the chances and challenges in applying AI in IE. However, so far
most intelligent environments are not yet intelligent from an AI perspective,
but only instrumented environments providing some intelligent interaction
modalities and some support for maintenance tasks. With this workshop we aim
at bridging the gap between AI researchers and developers of intelligent
environments in various disciplines. We want to provide a forum for discussion
between the different communities. Among the goals of the workshop are:

 - Establishing new research collaborations between researchers from the areas
of artificial intelligence, intelligent environments and pervasive computing.
 - The identification of open AI problems within the area of intelligent
environments.
 - The identification of problems occurring while applying AI techniques in
practice (e.g., the availability of scalable and robust implementations),
which need to be solved when building intelligent environments.
 - Collecting a set of case studies of smart environments with a particular
focus on the used AI techniques and open AI problems and the lessons learned
while building them.
 - The collection of benchmark data sets for the evaluation of AI methods
within the area of intelligent environments.
 - The development of a suitable notion of intelligence while considering
intelligent environments.

-- Types of Submissions ----------------------------------------------------

We are looking for technical contributions, position papers, demonstrations
and system descriptions related to the topics listed below.
 - technical papers describe one particular problem and its solution
 - position papers report on inspiring and new ideas
 - demonstrations show a system in actions and are
 - system descriptions provide insights into a running smart environment and
its related AI problems and solutions
 - posters accompany any of the above

-- Topics of Interest ------------------------------------------------------

 - AI and the internet of things
 - AI problems while analysing uncertain sensor data in Intelligent
Environments
 - AI problems while analysing massive amounts of information in Intelligent
Environments (Novel clustering and classification methods)
 - Activity recognition (in particular AI approaches for infrastructure
mediated and device-free passive sensing)
 - AI methods for intention analysis (e.g. prediction of activities and user
goals)
 - Machine learning methods for effective energy monitoring and analysis
 - AI methods like constraint programming for energy optimisation
 - Improving indoor localisation techniques using AI and ML techniques
 - Cooperative and collaborative data processing in dense indoor environments
(e.g., multi-agent systems, in-network processing approaches)
 - Smart room/home/buildings technologies
 - Ambient/urban intelligence
 - Assisted living technologies and algorithms
 - Evaluation methodologies
 - Benchmarks for IE-related algorithms and technologies
 - Theoretical foundations for AI in IE
 - Application of AI in IE (advances and lessons learned)
 - Organic and printed electronics for AI in intelligent environments
 - AI methods to manage/improve information security in intelligent
environments
 - Ubiquitous/pervasive computing and context awareness
 - Human-computer interaction in intelligent environments
 - Robotics in IE
As usual, the above list is not an exhaustive list but an indicative one. All
papers (up to 6 pages) must be written in English and adhere the submission
guidelines posted on the submission page.
