BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, and IBM, are pleased to announce a new annual event, the BCS Karen Spärck Jones Lecture, celebrating women in computing research.

The 2011 Lecture will be given by Fran Allen, IBM fellow emerita and the first woman to win a Turing award. It will take place on Tuesday 24 May 2011 at the BCS in London, with tea at 5.30 and the lecture at 6pm.

The new event celebrates Karen Spärck Jones, a professor at Cambridge and a pioneer of language processing. She famously said "Computing is too important to be left to men."
