>>
>>
>> Summary and Theme
>>
>> This is a one day workshop of hands-on, focused activities performed
>> in cross-disciplinary groups. The theme and focus of the workshop
>> activities is sensing and visualising the "hidden pulse" of the
>> city. Groups will be challenged to design and develop a sensing unit
>> that will capture some hidden element of Zurich city (e.g.
>> crowdedness, pollution levels, etc.). A development kit (consisting
>> of a mini processing unit and a variety of pluggable sensors), sample
>> code snippets and a development environment will be provided to
>> enable rapid prototyping. In addition to learning new hardware and
>> development skills, groups will also have the chance to deploy their
>> sensing units around Zurich. The captured data will be fed into a
>> visualisation framework that will present a combined view of the data
>> captured by all groups. Participants will be encouraged to consider
>> the hardware involved and the issues of deploying sensors in a
>> real-world urban environment as well as the final visuals.
>>
>>
>> Topics of interest
>>
>> Positions at this hands-on workshop are limited. Therefore we invite
>> authors to submit a position paper for peer review (plus accompanying
>> biography), to be considered as a workshop participant. Topics of
>> interest include (but are not limited to):
>>
>> ·Crowd-sensing and monitoring of an urban environment
>>
>> ·Rapid prototyping with sensor technologies
>>
>> ·New methods of crowdsourcing in urban environments
>>
>> ·Sensing for sustainable behavioural change
>>
>> ·Visualising complex data from urban sensors or the urban crowd
>>
>> ·Novel applications for mobile devices, public displays and social
>> networking services
>>
>> ·New applications for urban spaces
>>
>>
>> Submission format
>>
>> Workshop candidates are requested to send a position paper of no more
>> than 2 pages long in SIGCHI archival format, and must in addition
>> include a short biography detailing their research interests and
>> background. Please download and use the required templates to
>> prepare your submission.
