CFP: INTERACT 2017 Field Trip: Culture and Personalization: Investigating culturally sensitive Perceptions of Personalization and Privacy in India
Extended Registration Deadline: May 31, 2017
Bombay, India, September 25 - 26, 2017
Two day Field Trip
Organizers: Hanna Schneider, Florian Lachner, Ceenu George, Malin Eiband

This field trip investigates how privacy and personalization in technological products are perceived in India, a collectivist society, as opposed to individualistic societies. In a two-day field trip on 25th and 26th September the research team, including all field trip participants, will collect data with semi-structured interviews in different locations around Mumbai. A detailed schedule of the two days can be found here: <>

Objectives of the Field Trip:
* Understand the relation of privacy and personalization in a collectivist country
* Investigate the need for culturally sensitive design considerations of personalization mechanisms
* Connect researchers and practitioners from the areas of personalization, privacy, and cross-cultural research

We welcome researchers and practitioners from any domain (social sciences, HCI, computer sciences, design) to join our field trip. We are especially looking for participants with expertise in personalization or experience in qualitative data collection, analysis and design thinking techniques. We highly welcome researchers who speak either Hindi or Marathi along with English.

Participants are invited to submit a short reflection of their understanding of personalization and privacy, preferably but not limited to a discussion of of cross-cultural contexts. Submissions should be roughly 1 page (Springer LNCS Format <> or a 300 word document) and include:

* Research interest and/or expertise with respect to this field trip
* Name and affiliation
* [OPTIONAL] Summary of previously conducted studies in the areas of personalization, privacy, and/or culturally sensitive design

Registration of interest to join the field trip will end on May 31 (deadline extended!). Please send your submissions to [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>. After final acceptance to the field trip, accepted participants need to register via <>.

Thank you very much,
Florian Lachner, Ceenu George, Malin Eiband, and Hanna Schneider
