challenges of designing for PHS. Such design opportunities and challenges,
to be addressed within the workshop, can be summarized as design
approaches, processes and methodologies to:

-Deliver long-lasting motivation and engagement changes that are conducive
to effective support and assistance healthcare
-Address daily interaction of patients with a PHS and with their medical
and personal data
-Allow for the personalization and adaptation of the PHS to patients, their
condition, lifestyle, culture and socio-economics.

-Biosensing for the same application
-Emotion-sensing
-Technologies for stimulation and feedback
-Rehabilitation technologies
-New interaction techniques, on both hardware and software
-Implementable models for stroke risk calculation
-Implementable models for health behaviour change
-Indoors and outdoors navigation support for stroke survivors
-Design methods and guidelines for such applications
-Specific evaluation methods and criteria
-Workload and user performance
-User experience and satisfaction
-Business perspectives for technologies for stroke survivors

Workshop on Affective Computing in Pervasive Health

The Affective Computing in Pervasive Health workshop focuses on the
presentation and discussion of relevant scholarly works that include the
affective component of the patient in the technologies, which could improve
the medical treatments and health programs. Topics of interest include, but
are not limited to:

-New strategies or sensors for sensing physiological information.
-Methods and algorithms for automatic recognition, monitoring and
assessment of affective states.
-Artificial intelligent solutions to adapt systems’ response according to
affective input.
-Systems to improve emotional patients’ wellbeing, e.g. systems that
promote motivation or engagement to the therapeutic program.
-Telemedicine systems that include the affective component of the patient.
-Informatics and/or cloud based solutions for remote monitoring of
metabolic, physiological, or biomechanical information.
-Multimodal sensing of affective information.
-Algorithms for mining affective information in healthcare.
-Human-Computer interface solutions exploiting affective states of users
for healthcare purposes.
-Affective hyper-scanning (of more than one stakeholder at once)-
-Validation of affective models against behavioural or neurological data.
-Observational or interventional studies of affective systems for
healthcare including full randomized controlled trial (RCT), proof of
concepts and case studies.

DigiStress – Workshop on Understanding the Interdependency between Stress
and Digital Technologies

In this workshop, we aim to expand and shape the understanding of the
interdependency between stress and digital technologies. Facing the ongoing
advancements in ubiquitous technologies, this workshop aims to foster
reflected discussions but also develop visions on future trends and how to
adequately and responsibly deal with stress in the context of digital
technologies. We accept submissions about empirical studies, application
prototypes and concepts including but not limited to the following themes:

-Stress detection. How can we accurately detect and measure stress?

-Advancements in the fields of signal processing, machine learning and
intelligent systems have made it possible to detect, quantify and classify
stress levels in a continuous fashion. How can we incorporated contextual
information stemming from the use of mobile devices to improve stress
detection? How can we incorporate known physiological patterns such as the
circadian rhythm?

-Consumer devices to sense stress. How off-the-shelf wearable devices can
be used for detecting stress? Wearable devices (e.g., Empatica) have been
used to monitor a wide range of physiological responses, influenced by
one’s physical activity, physiological state and induced stress. Which
physiological monitoring devices, sensors and setups are reliable enough
for inferring stress levels?

-Linking Stress to Activities with Digital Devices. Can we associate stress
to the use of specific applications? For example, we know that often
certain interactions with mobiIe devices are a result of a habit (i.e.,
habitual interactions), or even direct consequence of one being stressed.
However, is it possible that certain (mobile) interactions inflict stress
instead (technostress)? What is the impact on user behavior?

-Extracting a digital “technostress fingerprint”. Can we infer a “stress
index” for certain technological interactions? How can we incorporate such
an index in the design of future systems for eliciting interactions that
improve User Experience? How do we communicate stress levels and a
potential technostress index to the user?

Workshop on Addressing Grand Challenges in Healthcare through Smart Clothing

This one-day, hands-on and thought-provoking workshop at PervasiveHealth
2019 aims to explore the opportunities and obstacles for Smart Clothing in
healthcare and to identify the grand challenges for researchers in this
area. We are looking for a wide range of contributions regarding the
workshop topic. Submissions could address, amongst others:

-Why clothing? What does smart clothing facilitate that current wearable
devices do not?
-Why is smart clothing not currently more available for healthcare
applications?
-What are the pathways from a novel therapeutic or interventional garment
to commercialization? Where are the “valleys of death”?
-What are the pathways from a clinical need to a viable smart clothing
solution? Where are stakeholder interests in conflict?
-Which clinical domains would be the most transformed by viable smart
clothing solutions? Why?
