** Post-doctoral position in Interactive Information Systems **
UNC Chapel Hill, School of Information and Library Science
The School of Information and Library Science (SILS) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) invites applications for a post-doctoral research position in interactive information systems to participate in the NSF-funded research project, “Knowledge Representation and Re-Use for Exploratory and Collaborative Search”.
This is a multi-year project led by Dr. Rob Capra and is part of the research efforts of the Interactive Information Systems Lab at SILS. The project is focused on developing and evaluating novel techniques to allow users to capture, save, share, and re-use structured information about search tasks, search processes, and domain information.

Required
• A doctoral degree in a relevant field such as information science or computer science is required at the time of employment
Desired
• Strong research track record
• Publications in top HCI, IR, and/or information science conferences and journals
• Experience with user-centered design, implementation, and evaluation of interactive systems
• Strong quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills
• Experience designing and conducting both lab-based and crowdsourced research studies of interactive systems
• Significant experience developing interactive software and web applications
Duties and Responsibilities
• Designing and implementing novel interactive information retrieval systems
• Designing and conducting research studies and evaluations (lab-based and crowdsourced)
• Quantitative and qualitative analysis of research data
• Helping to supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate research assistants
• Co-authoring research papers and presenting results at research conferences
Details
• This project is funded through an NSF CAREER grant. This is a full-time, maximum 24 month, non-tenure track position consisting of an initial appointment for one year with an anticipated renewal for a second year. The position includes salary, benefits, and travel support. The position will be under the supervision of Dr. Rob Capra.
