Decision Making and Recommender Systems Workshop
				    DMRS-2018
			   Bolzano, November 29-30, 2018
			   http://dmrsworkshop.inf.unibz.it

				 Last Call for Participation

Objectives
----------------------

This workshop aims at bringing together researchers and practitioners
from different research communities, such as human computer interaction,
decision-making and recommender systems, to discuss open issues related
to the design and usage of recommender systems. Six long invited talks
of renowned scholars will introduce broad and important topics and a
large space for discussion and brainstorming will be given.
Interdisciplinary research challenges and emerging research directions
will be brought to the forefront.

Motivation and Topics
----------------------

While most of the research in recommender systems is focusing on
recommendation techniques (algorithms), which often boils down to rating
or ranking prediction algorithms, there is still too little discussion
on the impact of the system’s generated recommendations and the designed
system/user interaction on user decision making. However, supporting and
influencing the decision-making process is the true ultimate goal of a
recommender system. Hence, it is important to design new recommendation
techniques and interaction modalities that can effectively support users
in making better decisions.

In particular, this year we aim at going beyond the analysis of a single
user/system interaction and therefore discuss the global effects of
recommendations on a network of users. In fact, recommenders are
accessed by networked users (e.e., in social networks) which are
mutually influencing and also determine the system computed recommendations.

Specific Topics:

- Social choice
- Group Decision Making
- Multi agent systems
- Network Analysis
- Information Diffusion in Networks
- Ecology of Decision Making
- Societal implications of information filtering and personalisation
- Persuasion in social networks
- Social Psychology of Decision Making
- Social Robots and recommendations
- Reciprocal Recommender Systems

Invited Speakers
------------------------

- Allison Stanger, Middlebury College, USA
- Paul Resnick, University of Michigan, USA

Participation
------------------------

We have a limited number of places for participating to the workshop. In
order to apply for the participation, please submit an extended
abstract/position paper through
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=dmrs2018 . We will evaluate the
submissions and notify the authors about the acceptance. Authors of the
submissions that will be deemed of particular interest will be invited
to prepare a short presentation.
