Call for Participation: Doctoral Colloquium at PervasiveHealth 2018 (NYC,
USA)

http://pervasivehealth.org/call-papers-doctoral-consortium/
========================================================
Important Dates
-----------------------------------------------------------
* Extended Submission deadline: 9th of April 2018 (5:00pm PST)
* Notification of acceptance: 21st April, 2018
* Doctoral Colloquium: 21st May, 2018
===========================================
Overview
-----------------------------------------------------------
The PervasiveHealth 2018 Doctoral Colloquium (DC) provides an opportunity
for doctoral students to present, reflect and discuss their research in an
international forum alongside other doctoral students and a panel of
experts. The Doctoral Colloquium will be held on Monday 21st May2018 as
part of the 12th EAI International Conference on Pervasive Computing
Technologies for Healthcare in New York, USA.

We invite students who are working in the broad field of PervasiveHealth to
apply. We welcome DC position papers from the following fields:
* Sensing/Actuating Technologies and Pervasive Computing
* Medicine, Nursing, and Allied Health Professions
* Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Computer Supported Cooperative Work
(CSCW)
* Hardware and Software Infrastructures

Students accepted for the DC will give short presentations of their
research during the day, followed by an extensive group discussion in a
friendly and constructive manner. Pervasive health is a challenging and
rapidly developing area of research where the exchange of ideas and
discussion of concepts with other researchers provides an effective way of
gaining new insights and identifying opportunities for possible
collaborations.

----------------------------------------------------------
Submission and Review Process
-----------------------------------------------------------
The submission should include 2 documents:

1) An overview of your doctoral research including references, figures,
tables, and appendix (maximum 4 pages). The submission should be formatted
using the ACM SIGCHI extended abstract template.

2) A supporting letter from their advisor noting their year in the program,
years until the student should defend, and how the DC will help their
research.

The research overview has to address the following questions:
* What is the problem? What are you going to solve?
* Who cares? Why should people care about this problem?
* What have other people done about it? Literature review. Why is that not
sufficient? What are the gaps and unanswered questions?
* What are you going to do about it? Your approach
* What are you really going to do about it? Methods, operationalization,
sample
* When do you know you are done?
* What do you expect to find? What did you find? Results
* What does this mean? Conclusions
* Who cares? Implications
* What would you like to know from the DC faculty panel?

Students should submit their documents via email to both DC chairs: <yunanc
at ics dot uci dot edu> and <nervo dot verdezoto at le dot ac dot uk>. Note
that submissions are accepted only in PDF format. Confidentiality of
submissions is maintained during the review process, and the participants
to the DC will be selected through a single-blind review process and
authors name and affiliation must be on the extended abstracts. All
rejected submissions will be kept confidential in perpetuity. Submissions
will be evaluated based on their originality, significance of the
contribution to the field, technical correctness and presentation.

The Doctoral Colloquium position papers will not be published to ensure the
student’s work is kept in confidence, however students will present their
work in a presentation during the doctoral colloquium and via a poster in
the main conference poster session.
