ECSCW 2017 Workshop - Social Matching Meets Big Social Data Science https://socialmatching.wordpress.com/

*** IMPORTANT DATES ***
Submissions due: 15th June 2017
Notifications sent: 1st July 2017
Workshop: Mon 28th Aug 2017 (full day)

Social matching is a frequent activity in many areas of life. In professional life, matching relates to, for example, recruitment, team formation and finding stakeholders and collaborators, and in private life, matching is done to find a partner or identify suitable people for joint leisure activities. The big social data about people in social media and other online services could provide a platform for analysis and identification of relevant matches in various "people recommender" applications.

But how do we utilize these data and other novel enablers in order to revolutionize the practices of matching people? What tools and data analysis methods could be utilized? And what kinds of social matching are there actually?

This full-day multidisciplinary workshop on social matching aims to bring together a diverse group of academics and practitioners that work with topics relevant to social matching and new data-centric technical enablers. The main goal is to outline and explore the opportunities and challenges in computational social matching as well as discuss the recent and emerging technologies that could contribute to this field. The workshop provides a forum for knowledge sharing, discussion and networking, as well as for creating new ideas and research questions.

We welcome academics as well as practitioners who are working with, for example, the following topics:
* Matching in business life
* Computational recruitment, headhunting and human resource management
* Networking events
* Dating applications
* Big Social Data
* Visualization and sensemaking of complex data
* Machine learning for matchmaking
* Social network analysis
* Social physics
* Social awareness
* Designing for serendipity
* Acceptance studies of technological interventions to social practices
* Recommendation algorithms for social connections
* Active learning
* Collaborative analysis workflow design for complex data
* Persuasive computing

Submissions:
Interested people are requested to send a position paper (2-6 pages in length) or any other kind of demonstration of interest and/or expertise in the topic (e.g., a live demo or Git project). The position paper should focus on (1) a particular HCI / CSCW / data analytics research question(s) in the context of social matchmaking that the authors have studied or would be interested in studying, and (2) the primary theories, methodologies, and platforms/data/projects used to address the question(s). Please follow the RTF or MS Word ECSCW exploratory papers template (https://ecscw2017.org.uk/papers-and-exploratory-papers/) for preparing your submissions to the workshop.

Participants will be selected based on the relevance of their work by the workshop organizers and an external program committee.

Workshop proceedings:
Position papers accepted and presented in the workshop are compiled into workshop proceedings edited by the organizers. The workshop proceedings is published under Tampere University of Technology publication series. Both ISBN and DOI are provided for the publication.

Organizers:
* Jukka Huhtamäki, Thomas Olsson and Ekaterina Olshannikova (Tampere University of Technology)
* Nitesh Goyal (Cornell University)
* Ravi Vatrapu and Raghava Mukkamala (Copenhagen Business School)
* Sean Goggins (University of Missouri)
