Applications are invited for:
*PhD Scholarships in Social and Natural User Interfaces*
Interaction Design Lab, The University of Melbourne, Australia

The University of Melbourne offers scholarships to outstanding students from Australia and abroad wishing to pursue higher degrees by research in the field of Social and Natural User Interfaces (SNUI). Students with a background in human-computer interaction (HCI) or related disciplines are encouraged to apply. For Australian applicants we require either at least an honours or a research masters degree. International students will be considered on the basis of equivalent standing of prior studies. More information about entry requirements, the application process and deadlines can be obtained from http://www.eng.unimelb.edu.au/study/graduate/phd-engineering.html

The Interaction Design Lab is active in many areas of HCI, but especially keen to recruit in the area of Social and Natural User Interfaces (SNUI). Natural User Interfaces (NUI) draw on interaction techniques that are a part of our everyday life, such as pointing, gesturing, moving and speaking. Our research focuses NUI in social settings, where the user experience involves multiple users engaging in a shared social context. We are particularly interested in SNUI for
- Private settings like the home and the workplace
- Public settings like public squares, museums, events and gatherings
- Educational settings to support formal and informal learning
- Health and well-being settings
Information on our lab and its activities can be obtained from http://www.cis.unimelb.edu.au/research/groups/interaction-design/

Students wishing to apply should send (i) a brief SNUI proposal, (ii) a CV and (iii) a transcript of results to Frank Vetere ([log in to unmask]) or Bernd Ploderer ([log in to unmask]).

Applications close 31 Aug 2013 (for non-Australian students) and 31 Oct 2013 (for Australian students)
