*** RECOMMENDATION AND PERSONALIZATION IN ECOMMERCE ***
Electronic commerce is the process of managing business occurring over
networks, which use non-proprietary protocols such as
Internet. Business includes buying and selling of information,
services and goods and maintaining a network of relationships between
organizations and individuals.
Recommendation systems are e-commerce applications that provide advice
to users about products or services they might be interested in. Web
based recommendation systems are the most notable application of the
web personalization, i.e., the process of tailoring a web site to
individual users' characteristics or preferences. Recommendation
systems are exploiting a vast range of AI technologies and are
defining new scenarios for human to human and human to machine
interaction. The ultimate goal is to offer an enhanced one-to-one
solution for each single user and meet his needs more effectively and
efficiently.

*** 2ND WORKSHOP ON PERSONALIZATION IN FUTURE TV ***
The first edition of the Personalization in Future TV workshop (TV'01)
was organized in Sonthofen, Germany, in 2001, as a forum in which
researchers from diverse areas such as machine learning, knowledge
engineering, cognitive sciences, adaptive user interfaces, and
business intelligence could share their experiences in the design,
development and exploitation of user interfaces for future TV
services.

*** PERSONALIZATION TECHNIQUES IN ELECTRONIC PUBLISHING ON THE WEB:
TRENDS AND PERSPECTIVES ***
The goal of the workshop is to review the current state of the art in
the exploitation of personalization techniques within Web sites
devoted to electronic publishing, and to highlight major trends for
the future and open research problems. The workshop is addressed to
researchers and to electronic publishers.

*** DOCUMENT COMPRESSION AND SYNTHESIS IN ADAPTIVE HYPERMEDIA SYSTEMS ***
Nowadays, given the explosion of on-line information sources and the
existence of massive information universes, some forms of
(semi-)automatic lossless/lossy compression and synthesization of data
are becoming crucial. The main objective of compression/synthesization
is the production of a concise, condensed representation of the key
information content of an information source, for a particular user
and task.
Lossy Data Compression and Synthesization will play a central role in
mobile computing and in Adaptive Hypermedia Systems, where the
information presented to the user need to be dynamically scaled with
respect to many conditions, such as the user terminal, the environment
(e.g. location, time, place, battery conditions, etc.) and, of course,
the user needs and wishes.
