Apologies if you receive multiple copies of this message. A reminder that submissions to the workshop are due in a little over two weeks. We are open to a range of submission types, so if you conduct research in connection with ubiquitous computing and home environments, please consider joining us to discuss your work.

HomeSys 2014: Call for Participation
------------------------------------

A workshop to be held as part of ACM UbiComp 2014
13th of September 2014, Seattle, Washington, USA.

***Deadline for submissions: 23rd May 2014***

***Accepted papers will be published in the ACM Digital Library as part of
the UbiComp 2014 adjunct proceedings***

Website: http://homesys.wp.horizon.ac.uk/

---
HomeSys 2014 will provide an inspiring and constructive venue for
researchers whose work focuses on technology in domestic settings. The
workshop will combine presentations, panel and small group discussions, in
order to reflect upon, and further develop the agenda of research around
home-based technologies.

Now the fourth event in this workshop series, HomeSys 2014 invites
researchers across disciplines, and from industry or academia, to submit
work that pushes the boundaries of technology in the home in areas such as
new technical advancements, forms of data capture or analysis, novel
designs and design methods, user-centred studies and ethnographies. We
welcome work that highlights the diversity in the characteristics of
homes, and submissions connected to societal issues such as food, energy,
or waste in the home.

The scope and complexity of technology in our homes is growing rapidly,
and evolving in unexpected ways. Building on the HomeSys and HomeNets
workshops of previous years, our broad themes for 2014 are Building,
Bodies and Boundaries:

BUILDING: The physical characteristics and variability of domestic spaces,
but equally, the creation of systems in them and for them. Design
processes and the evolution of systems and services that become home
infrastructure.

BODIES: People, new forms of interaction, wearables, computational
mediators of domestic social interaction, and interfaces for interaction
with the home. Wellbeing in the home, children, visitors, and pets.

BOUNDARIES: The physical, social, and experiential aspects of the
boundaries of the home. The blurring of boundaries, the control and limits
of data sharing, Gardens, communal and semi-private spaces. Technology
adoption or non- adoption, and ethics and methods for home-based research
and development.

SUBMISSIONS:

We invite researchers from across disciplines to submit their work for
presentation at the workshop. We are particularly interested in submissions
that describe empirical research, new technological designs or directions,
reviews that combine and reflect upon multiple pieces of work,
and position papers that present reasoned arguments on the present and
future state of research and development in this area.

Submissions should take one of the following forms:

* Full Papers (Up to 8 pages, 10 minute presentation at the workshop)

* Short Papers (Up to 4 pages, 5 minute presentation at the workshop)

* Video submissions of up to 10 minutes are also welcome, accompanied by a
short or full paper to provide explanation.

* UbiComp 2014 main conference authors: Authors of relevant papers and
posters that have been accepted to the main UbiComp 2014 conference
program are welcome to submit a paper that complements their existing
publication in the forms described above, or to provide a short preview of
their work at the workshop.

When submitting work, authors should suggest which of the themes
(Building, Bodies or Boundaries) their submission is most closely aligned with.

All paper submissions should follow the ACM SIGCHI Extended Abstract
format. A template is available from
http://www.sigchi.org/publications/chipubform.

Submissions should be emailed in .pdf format to
[log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> on
or before the 23rd of May 2014.

Accepted papers can be published in the ACM Digital Library as part of the
UbiComp 2014 adjunct proceedings. At the same time, there is flexibility
in this regard and we welcome suggestions for alternative types of
submission or activity, as well as attendance by attendees without any
form of submission, subject to space and time constraints.
