Call for book chapters: HCI and teenagers

Book title: An HCI Perspective on Working with Teenagers in Research Projects

Editors
----------
Dr Linda Little, Northumbria University, UK
Nicola Toth, Northumbria University, UK
Dr Beth Bell. York St John University, UK
Dr Daniel Fitton, University of Central Lancashire, UK

Background
----------------
This edited book will provide an inclusive account of methods and examples of best practise to use when working with teenagers in research, design sessions, engagement events or other activities. All editors noted a lack of informative literature when conducting their own research and teaching. There appears to be no basic reference book or model of best practise that a student, designer or researcher could adopt that clearly describes robust methodological approaches to use when working with the teenager population. This book will afford the opportunity to give clear examples of best practise and case studies from an HCI perspective. This is very important when considering how technology is used and adopted by this specific population. The main aim here is to provide a comprehensive reference book that will be a must-have source describing in detail methods, approaches and examples of how these have been applied in HCI research.

The book will inform researchers and practitioners on appropriate methods with every research chapter providing a detailed cost/benefit analysis of that particular approach as well as providing clear examples. Where possible each chapter will include reflective accounts or stories from the teenagers who participated in a particular piece of research or case study.

We are inviting researchers and practitioners who have worked with teenagers to submit chapters that include a comprehensive account of the methods and approaches adopted when working with the teenage population. In particular (although the list is not exhaustive) we are interested in chapters that focus on:

•	Health research and teenagers e.g. obesity, healthy eating, smoking cessation
•	Sustainability research and teenagers e.g. recycling, energy reduction, poverty
•	Rehabilitation research and teenagers e.g. crime, drug use
•	Impact of technology on teenagers e.g. design of, programmes, apps

Please prepare a proposal (2-3 pages) and submit it as a word document via email to Linda Little ([log in to unmask]) before 28th November. The proposal should include chapter title and a brief description of content (what you intend to address in the chapter). Accepted chapter authors should also be willing to do a blind review of one or two papers to help strengthen quality.

Send your proposals or queries to Linda Little: [log in to unmask]
