CALL FOR PAPERS

IJCAI 2009 Workshop on Intelligence and Interaction

Monday, July 13, 2009 in Pasadena, CA

http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/jfogarty/ijcai2009/index.html

*** Important Dates ***

6 March 2009 Paper Submission Deadline 11:59 pm PST

17 April 2009 Notification of acceptance

8 May 2009 Camera Ready paper due

12 July 2009 Workshop, Pasadena, CA, USA

*** Topics of interest ***

We invite submissions from leading researchers in both AI and HCI describing research that explores challenges at the intersection of AI and HCI. The workshop is intended to highlight research directions and opportunities for (1) learning and reasoning to enhance human-computer (and human-robot) interaction, and (2) the potential for embedding and involving people more deeply in the operation of learning and reasoning systems. Specific topics may include (but are not limited to):

- For what aspects of intelligent systems is human involvement most important? Why?

- What are the challenges of incorporating different types of human guidance, such as data provided before a system is operational, explicit corrections provided in response to system errors, and additional information collected by passive observation of interaction with a system?

- How can we better characterize human interaction with a learning process and seamlessly incorporate human guidance in the analysis of learning algorithms?

- What are the appropriate ways for people to interact with different types of intelligent systems?

- How can intelligent systems be sufficiently efficient to maintain interactive responsiveness?

- How should we evaluate systems that combine intelligence with human guidance?

*** Paper Submission Guidelines ***

Submissions should be at most 6 pages in length, formatted using the IJCAI styles. The ideal submission should provide an insightful survey of existing work, introduce a radically new concept, or present concrete, significant, and transferable research results. All papers will be reviewed by our international program committee, which will favor a program that encourages cross-pollination of ideas between AI and HCI researchers. Submissions will be coordinated using the EasyChair system:
