ACM Interactive Surfaces and Spaces (ACM ISS 2020) is the premier venue for
research in the design, development and use of new and emerging interactive
surface technologies and interactive spaces.

ACM ISS 2020 welcomes original, high-quality research and industry
contributions that advance the state-of-the-art in the area of interactive
surfaces, interactive spaces and novel interface technologies. Beyond the
traditional scope of the conference – i.e., interactive tabletops, large
displays, multi-display systems, mobile and mini devices – we also
encourage contributions focused on the use of space and technology around
us to bridge the gap between our digital and everyday lives, such as
interactive 3D spaces, on-body sensors, interactive art or interactive
architecture. We also encourage contributions focused on understanding
individual and group needs related to interactive surfaces and interactive
spaces, and the impact on individuals and groups of these technologies. We
embrace innovations in a wide variety of areas including design, software,
hardware, understanding of use, and applications or deployments of such
interactive systems.

==========
Situation with Coronavirus/Covid-19: ISS 2020 will be virtual this year!

Because of the evolving situation with covid-19 and the difficulties of
running a physical in-person conference, ACM ISS will be a virtual
conference event this year. The submission and reviewing process will
remain as planned, and papers will be published at PACMHCI ISS. Please stay
tuned for more information on the presentation format during the virtual
event!

==========
Dates

Submissions: July 1st, 2020, 5PM PDT
Notifications sent to Authors: August 21, 2020
Revisions: August 21, 2020 - September 14, 2020
Final Decisions: October 5th, 2020
Camera-ready due: October 9th, 2020

==========
New Publication Model: Journal PACMHCI ISS
Starting this year, ISS will switch to a journal model. We will invite for
presentation papers published by the Proceedings of the ACM on
Human-Computer Interaction. PACMHCI ISS has 1 volume per year with 1 issue
per conference per volume. At least one author of accepted papers needs to
register and present at the ACM ISS conference. The conference will retain
its workshop, poster, and demo tracks, which will have their own
publication outlet.

Upcoming deadlines for papers to be presented at the ISS 2020 are:

2020 Summer round: July 1st, 2020, 5PM PDT (Notifications: August 21, 2020,
Final decision: October 5, 2020)

Submissions will be done through http://new.precisionconference.com.

==========
Submissions
Submission to PACMHCI ISS should present original and mature research work.
High-quality, elaborated case studies and practice reports with
generalizable findings will also be considered. Papers should be written in
the Official ACM Journal Template (direct links to Word Template, LaTeX
Template using ‘manuscript’, and Overleaf Template). Please review the
Workflow and Template section of the ACM Journal Submission page.
Submissions should be anonymized. Primarily, this means that submissions
must remove all author and institutional information from the title and
header area of the first page of the paper. Author information should also
be removed from submitted supplementary materials, in particular, videos.
Submissions that do not do so may be rejected without review.
Furthermore, all references must remain intact. If you previously published
a paper and your current submission builds on that work, the complete
reference with the author's name must appear in the references. Authors
must refer to their previous work in the third person (e.g., “We build on
prior work by Smith et al. [X] but generalize their algorithm to new
settings.”) and avoid blank references (e.g., “12. REMOVED FOR REVIEWING”).
Further suppression of identity in the body of the paper (for example, in
an Acknowledgements section), while encouraged, is left to the authors’
discretion.

Submit your papers at http://new.precisionconference.com/.

==========
Paper Length
We recommend a page length in the new format of between 5-15 pages + any
additional pages for references. There are no length restrictions on
papers, so papers of any length can be submitted. However, reviewers will
put the length of any submitted paper in context of the provided
contribution when making decisions about acceptance and revisions.

==========
Revisions
The editorial board members will make decisions for any submitted papers as
either accepted, minor revisions, major revisions, or rejected. These
notifications are sent to authors on August 21st.
If the initial decision is "minor revisions", the authors will have a
revision cycle within the current to address these changes, from August
21st to September 14th. After the revised paper is submitted on September
14th, the final decisions will be sent to authors on October 5th.
If the initial decision is "major revisions", the paper must be submitted
in the following round to guarantee treatment as a revision, meaning that
the same primary and secondary Board Members are assigned to continuously
handle the submission. Submissions requiring "major revisions" will not
submit on the revision deadline on September 14th, but in the next full
review cycle for the following ISS 2021. This is to allow extra time in
case the authors need to perform significant new work, such as conducting a
new evaluation, before acceptance is possible.

==========
Topic Areas
The conference welcomes contributions on a wide range of topics relating to
interactive surfaces and spaces as well as novel interface technologies,
including (but not limited to):

   1. Real-world applications of interactive surfaces and/or spaces in
   specific domains (public spaces, education, science, business,
   entertainment, health, art, homes, etc.)
   2. Large display interfaces and multi-display environments
