The Institute of Design announces two more outstanding speakers for the HITS Conference:
Robert Brunner
Partner, Pentagram
"Beyond Usability"
In general, people usually notice bad ergonomics or usability. It's actually rare for someone to comment that things work well, unless they contrast it against a bad experience. Also, it really doesn't matter if something is usable. What matters is that it is in fact, useful. And even better if it is desirable. In this talk, Bob Brunner will explore the significance of human interface work combined with physical design. Specifically, creating value and marketability through usefulness and desirability. Through methods and current case studies, Brunner will illustrate his approach to solving problems and creating opportunities for companies big and small.
Chris Conley
Assistant Professor, Institute of Design, Illinois Institute of Technology
"Networked Products: a new opportunity for interaction and business"
Lost in the rise and fall of the Internet boom is the emergence of a ubiquitous network accessible by almost any product or service. Varying levels of physical networks combined with open network protocols (HTTP, XML, VOIP) are setting the stage for unprecedented capabilities, services, and value chains. While the technology is already in place, little value is being derived compared to the network's potential. Will this be just another infrastructure that we make use of incrementally over the coming century? Are there any ways to think about it that lead to more significant shifts in business and society? This presentation will open a dialog on specific human, interaction, and strategy issues presented by networked products.

Creating high-quality interactive experiences that delight users and satisfy people's increasingly complex needs is becoming recognized as a strategic asset for business. Presented by the Institute of Design, IIT, in cooperation with ACM SIGCHI, the HITS Conference will explore the nature of the link between user value and business value, and how user-centered design can lead to more valued, and valuable, interactive experiences with the products, communications, environments and services of the future.
