Submission Deadline: 30 September 2016

We invite colleagues to a submit proposals to participate in a workshop on the HCI Living Curriculum to be held at AfriCHI on 22 November 2016.

The objectives of this workshop are to:

1) exchange information about HCI education practice and resources
2) seek examples of innovation and in particular indigenous innovation, in the delivery and teaching of HCI
3) share goals in HCI education for each particular case/scenario
4) share existing practice, resources and goals to outline a plan to implement a curriculum that considers findings from the study on a Living Curriculum [1, 2]
and
5) brainstorm potential innovations

We would like to invite participants who are passionate about HCI education, have a rich HCI education portfolio, and can contribute with diversity in views about HCI education. We are particularly interested in the HCI education practice in Africa, but other qualified people are welcome to submit and attend.

The workshop will be organized as follows: an explanation of the concept of HCI Living Curriculum and how this was derived and refined through research; followed by sessions focused on refining a shared understanding of current practice and resources; especially with regard to HCI now and in the future in Africa; outlining more detailed and focused goals for a HCI Living Curriculum; brainstorming plans for moving forward towards achieving those goals; and, through consensus building exercises, generating work/action items for the creation of a viable and sustainable HCI Living Curriculum.

Position papers should inform the reader about the proponent’s experience in HCI education and particular views on the creation of an HCI living curriculum and answer the following questions:
	• Explain your current HCI education practice, curriculum and resources.
	• What are your HCI education goals for the next five years?
	• What are your concerns about adopting an HCI living curriculum at your institution?
	• What characteristics should an HCI curriculum have?
	• What factors (in your experience) will influence the adoption of a living curriculum?
	• Share your perspective on the nature of an educational platform, considering the pedagogical approach and the technological, structural and cultural considerations that should be taken into account.
	• Do you have an example/s of indigenous innovation in the delivery and teaching of HCI?
In addition to educators and professionals, we encourage students to participate. Students should submit a statement of interest describing their research and/or design projects and informing us about how their particular HCI education experience prepared them for their project(s).

At least one author of each accepted paper must attend the workshop. All participants must register for both the workshop and for at least one day of the conference.
