Dear colleague,

we will be pleased if you will join IEEE Multimedia Systems'99 - the 6th
IEEE International Conference on Multimedia  Computing and Systems (IEEE
ICMCS99 for short). IEEE ICMCS99 is sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society
and will take place in Florence, Italy, from 7th to 11th June 1999.

IEEE ICMCS is an international forum for presentation and discussion of
advances and new perspectives in Multimedia. Conference topics include but
are not limited to Operating System Support, Distributed Multimedia, Human
Computer Interaction, Multimedia Databases, Multimedia Tools and
Applications.
The Conference program will include plenary lectures given by invited
speakers, contributed papers presented in regular sessions, tutorials,
panels and a technological exhibition. Proceedings will be published by
IEEE.

In addition to regular oral and poster sessions, in the Conference program
we have included - for the first time in IEEE ICMCS - a number of Special
Sessions on key topics of Multimedia. Special Sessions are for invitation
only. They aim to make the point on a key subject from different qualified
perspectives and points of view. Special Sessions include a Session Chair
introduction on the state of the art and from 3 to 4, invited talks by
distinguished scientists, followed by an open discussion. Special Sessions
that have been scheduled are:

A  full day dedicated to European Community programs on Multimedia, has
been organized, with the support of the Agency for Technological
Development and Transfer and of the European Community. Invited talks by
European Community  officers on future industry-research  programs and
presentations of ongoing European projects  in the field of Multimedia are
planned.


Best papers presented at IEEE ICMCS99 will appear on two Special Issues in
IEEE MULTIMEDIA and JOURNAL OF MULTIMEDIA TOOLS AND APPLICATIONS.


CALL FOR PAPERS  DEADLINE IS OCTOBER 15, 1998.
