CALL FOR PAPERS

IEEE Pervasive Computing
Special Issue on Cloud Computing

Submission Deadline: December 1st, 2012
Publication: Oct.-Dec. 2013

It could be argued that two of the most important technological
developments of the last few years are the emergence of mobile and cloud
computing. By shifting the hardware and staffing costs of managing
computational infrastructure to third parties such as Google, Microsoft,
or Amazon, cloud computing has made it possible for small organizations
and individuals to deploy world-scale services; all they need to pay is
the marginal cost of actual resource usage. At the same time, the
deployment of 3G and 4G networks, the rapid adoption of feature-rich
smartphones, and the growing integration of computation into consumer
products such as cars and home appliances, have brought mobile and
pervasive computing into the mainstream.

This special issue aims to explore the intersections of these two
trends. Mobile and embedded devices make it possible for users to access
cloud-based services and data anywhere and anytime, extending their
reach into everyday life. Simultaneously, cloud computing platforms are
a natural fit to remedy the lack of local resources in mobile and
pervasive devices, while enabling resource-intensive next generation
applications. We invite original and high-quality submissions addressing
all aspects of this field, as long as the connection to the focus topic
is clear and emphasized. Relevant topics include, but are not limited
to, the following:

• Cloud architecture support for mobile and pervasive applications
• Cloud primitives for mobile and pervasive applications
• Mobile and pervasive architecture and programming models
• Resource provisioning and allocation
• Programming models and frameworks
• Energy management
• Next generation pervasive applications (e.g., augmented reality,
automatic
translation, image recognition)
• Privacy and security
• Availability and reliability
• Mobile device virtualization

SUBMISSION INFORMATION

Submissions should be 4,000 to 6,000 words long and should follow the
magazine’s guidelines on style and presentation. All submissions will be
anonymously reviewed in accordance with normal practice for scientific
publications.

In addition to full-length submissions, IEEE Pervasive Computing also
invites work-in-progress submissions of 250 words or less (submit to
[log in to unmask]). These will not be peer reviewed but will be
reviewed by the Department Editor and, if accepted, edited by the staff
into a feature for the issue. The deadline for work-in-progress
submissions is 27 February 2013.
