1. Posters
============

http://ieeevis.org/year/2016/info/call-participation/posters <http://ieeevis.org/year/2016/info/call-participation/posters>

The IEEE VIS 2016 Poster Program offers a timely venue to present and discuss new visualization research through a forum that encourages graphical presentation, demonstration and active engagement with IEEE VIS participants. We particularly encourage contributions that take advantage of the nature of the poster space and forum to present and raise awareness of the work in effective and imaginative ways.

2. Panels
============

http://ieeevis.org/year/2016/info/call-participation/panels <http://ieeevis.org/year/2016/info/call-participation/panels>

IEEE VIS 2016 Panels should address important and/or controversial applications and issues in scientific and information visualization and visual analytics today. In particular, we invite topics in connection with interesting application fields. Panels bringing together potential users of visualization technology (e.g., practitioners and industry professionals) and leading researchers, or panels consisting of experts in fields that might teach us important concepts (e.g., perceptual psychology, visual design, color theory, user-interface design) are welcome. Panelists should be experts in their fields who can discuss the challenges of visualization, and engage the audience and fellow panel members in a stimulating, interactive debate. Diverging opinions on controversial topics are encouraged.

Important dates:
Submission: June 15, 2016
Notification: July 11, 2016
Final submission of summaries: August 5, 2016
Submission of video previews: August 5, 2016

3. Arts Program
============

http://visap.uic.edu <http://visap.uic.edu/>

The IEEE VIS 2016 Arts Program, or VISAP’16, showcases innovative artwork and research that explores the exciting and increasingly prominent intersections between art, design, and visualization. Through a dedicated papers track and an exhibition that runs concurrently with the IEEE VIS 2016 conference, the Arts Program aims to foster new thinking, discussion, and collaboration between artists, designers, technologists, visualization scientists, and others working at the intersection of these fields. The theme for the Call for Papers and Artworks this year is “Metamorphoses.” We are especially interested in projects and papers that explore the relationships between visualization research and arts and/or design practice, and that introduce creative visual techniques that emphasize transformative aspects of scientific or cultural exploration.

Important dates:
Paper submission: June 24, 2016
Notifications: July 22, 2016
Camera-ready copy due: August 5, 2016
Submission of video previews: August 5, 2016

Back for the second year, Student Volunteers can design the T-Shirt they will receive at the conference! If you are eligible to be a Student Volunteer at VIS this year and interested in designing the T-Shirt, the winner will automatically be selected to be a Student Volunteer on top of being acknowledged for designing the T-Shirt.

Important dates:
Deadline for sending your design: June 12, 2016
Pre-selection of 5 designs is made, opening of the voting phase: July 1, 2016
Voting phase ends and the winner is notified: August 1, 2016

5. BELIV: Beyond Time And Errors: Novel Evaluation Methods For Visualization
============

http://www.beliv.org <http://www.beliv.org/>

We invite contributions to BELIV 2016, the international workshop on evaluation in visualization. Established scientific methods like controlled experiments and standard metrics like time and error continue to be the workhorse of evaluation in visualization.Yet, there is a growing need for the visualization community to develop dedicated evaluation approaches and metrics for evaluation at all stages of the development life cycle that address specific needs in visualization. The goal of the workshop is to continue the discussion and spread the word on alternative and novel evaluation methods and methodologies for visualization.

Important dates:
Paper submission: June 15, 2016
First notification: July 10, 2016
Revisions: July 20, 2016
Final notification: Aug 5, 2016
Camera-ready copy: Aug 31, 2016

6. LDAV: Big Data Analysis and Visualization
============

http://www.ldav.org/ <http://www.ldav.org/>

Modern large-scale scientific simulations, sensor networks, and experiments are generating enormous datasets, with some projects approaching the multiple exabyte range in the near term. Managing and analyzing large datasets in order to transform it into insight is critical for a variety of disciplines including climate science, nuclear physics, security, materials design, transportation, and urban planning. This is currently referred to as the Big Data Challenge. The tools and approaches needed to mine, analyze, and visualize data at extreme scales can be fully realized only if we have end-to-end solutions, which demands collective, interdisciplinary efforts.

Important Dates:
Abstract submission: June 17, 2016
Paper submission: June 24, 2016, 11:59 PM (AOE)
Author notification: August 10, 2016
Camera-Ready: August 17, 2016

7. VAST Challenge
============

http://vacommunity.org/VAST+Challenge+2016 <http://vacommunity.org/VAST+Challenge+2016>

This year’s VAST Challenge returns to the island of Kronos for three mini-challenges to test the skills of designers and visual analytics groups alike. These challenges are open to participation by individuals and teams in industry, government, and academia. We encourage your submissions and look forward to seeing your innovative approaches to solving these challenges using visual analytics.
