User-System Interaction: Make technology work.

IPO, Center for Research on User-System Interaction, of the Eindhoven
University of Technology, has established a two-year Postgraduate Programme
in Technological Design for User-System Interaction. The programme provides
engineers, computer scientists and behavioural scientists with a
professional schooling in user-system interaction and a practical training
in user-centred design methods for user-friendly interfaces of products,
services and systems. Students are trained to work in multi-disciplinary
teams of people on projects and cases in different application domains.

The programme features:
* Design focus - students are positioned as designers, filling the gap
between market demand and technical possibilities, between user needs and
product satisfaction.
* Practical training - students work in their second year on a project
in industry or government supervised by staff from IPO and the host
organisation.
* Application orientation - students work on assignments and case
studies throughout the programme.
* Teamwork - students with backgrounds in the engineering, behavioural
and physical sciences work in small multi-disciplinary teams.
* Cross-cultural and international experience - students with
different national and cultural backgrounds work together.
* M.Sc. Degree in Technological Design and accredited by the Dutch
Royal Institute of Engineers.
* Two-year salaried Dutch government appointment, including benefits.

The User-System Interaction Programme is one of the eleven two-year
full-time programmes of the Stan Ackermans Institute of the Eindhoven
University of Technology. These programmes are, in contrast to the four-year
PhD programmes, dedicated to design and design process of systems and
products.

IPO is looking for students who are interested in working as user interface
specialist in multi-disciplinary design, research and development teams in
industry, business services and government institutions. Students with a
graduate degree (MSc level or equivalent) in one of the engineering or
behavioural sciences, such as, computer science, business engineering,
mathematics, linguistics, psychology, cognitive sciences may apply.
Applicants with professional qualifications will be considered. Account will
be taken of any practical experience.

Applications for the September 1999 programme will be accepted until the end
of July, depending on merit and availability of places. There is no formal
closing date, but applications before mid April are encouraged. Applications
from citizens outside the EC might need more time due to visa and work
permit procedures. Valid applications consist of a letter of application,
extensive curriculum vitae, at least two letters of recommendation, and
certified copies of diploma's, courses and grades (English translations for
Non-Dutch citizens).
