2018 IEEE Haptics Symposium
March 25-28 in San Francisco, USA
http://2018.hapticssymposium.org
*********************************

Haptics research is evolving rapidly, with burgeoning advances in the understanding of touch perception, new haptic interface technologies, and commercial applications. Since 1992 the IEEE Haptics Symposium has been a vibrant interdisciplinary forum where scientists, engineers, and designers come together to share advances, spark new collaborations, and envision a future that benefits from rich haptic feedback.

Sponsored by the IEEE Robotics & Automation Society and the IEEE Technical Committee on Haptics, the Haptics Symposium is the central venue for reporting research results and demonstrating novel capabilities in the field. In 2018, this four-day conference will be held in the heart of downtown San Francisco and will showcase five types of contributions.

TYPES OF CONTRIBUTIONS:
- Technical Papers (6 pages, with 1 or 2 more pages for a fee): Accepted papers will be presented orally and published in IEEE Xplore. The top 10% of submissions will be referred to the IEEE Transactions on Haptics for expedited review of an evolved, journal-length version.
- Cross-Cutting Challenges: This new session will bring the community together around grand, emerging challenges that require interdisciplinary research. Based on open solicitation, two themes will feature keynote talks and interactive discussions delivered by faculty experts.
- Work-in-Progress Papers (2 pages, with 1 more page for a fee): Highlighting late-breaking results and presented as posters, accepted WIP papers will be published only in the electronic proceedings, and authors will retain copyright for future publication of extended work.
- Hands-On Demonstrations (1 booth): Interactive research demonstrations are highly valued at the IEEE Haptics Symposium. Presentation entails a brief proposal that will be reviewed to ensure relevance and novelty.
- Exhibits (1 or 2 booths for a fee): Companies are invited to engage with our community by displaying products and services that relate to haptics.

TOPICS
Haptic interface design and control, tactile displays, sensors and actuators, human-computer interaction, multi-modal systems, virtual and augmented reality, haptic rendering and modeling, embedded haptics, teleoperation, shared control and collaboration, robotic manipulation, physical human-robot interaction, human haptic perception, neuroscience of touch, haptics in industrial and commercial applications, and other innovative applications of haptics.

LOCATION
San Francisco is the cultural, commercial, and financial center of Northern California and the thirteenth most populous city in the United States. Home to many historic sites and famous attractions including the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, Fisherman’s Wharf and the Chinatown district, this metropolitan area is also part of Silicon Valley, where many well-known high-tech companies reside. San Francisco’s airport offers direct flights to a broad range of domestic and international locations, and the city has excellent public transportation. The conference venue is the Westin St. Francis, a beautiful and historic hotel on Union Square.

SPONSORSHIP
In addition to presenting an exhibit, vendors and corporations are encouraged to help sponsor the 2018 Haptics Symposium to support the haptics community and maintain visibility within it. For more information, please [log in to unmask]
