At CHI2012 - we have a SIG Meeting to talk about the idea of replicating HCI findings.
With the novel-research focus of the HCI community, its hard to imagine looking back, validating, and examining the findings of others, yet for many disciplines this is a core - a must. So we never check the validity, the applicability, or the replicability of other peoples research - we take (e.g.) a study of 20 people in one city of one country as truth. Should we?
We'll be talking about how we can facilitate the discussion - and publication - of replication attempts in the CHI community, as we begin to define and propose: a future sub-venue of the CHI conferences - RepliCHI.
We need you to talk about it - as much as we want the people at the top to listen. So we've (so far) booked these people to listen:
• Wendy Mackay (CHI2013 Conference Chair)
• Ed Chi (CHI2012 Technical Program Co-Chair)
• Jeffrey Nichols (TOCHI)
• Dan Olsen (SIGCHI VP of Publications)
• Matt Jones (CHI2014 Conference Co-Chair)
So come and do your bit!
Wednesday 9th May - 9:30am - Room B11

We'll see you there
