*Updated Submission Information*

*W30: Addressing the Challenges of Situationally-Induced Impairments and
Disabilities in Mobile Interaction* *(https://siid2019.wordpress.com
<https://siid2019.wordpress.com>)*

*We are interested in receiving a wide variety of submissions types (e.g.,
short position papers, case studies, empirical studies, descriptions of new
mobile systems and identified challenges, new interaction approaches, etc.)*

Please contact us if you have any questions.

Our CHI 2019 Workshop will focus on identifying appropriate methods for
understanding, sensing, modelling, and adapting mobile technologies to
ameliorate the effects of Situationally-induced impairments and
disabilities (SIIDs) that make it difficult for users of interactive
computing systems to perform tasks due to context (e.g., listening to a
phone call when in a noisy crowd, playing a mobile game outside in the sun,
replying to a message while carrying shopping) rather than a result of a
congenital or acquired impairment (e.g., hearing damage, low vision, motor
impairment).

**** Objectives ****
The main objectives of the workshop are to:
(1) provide a shared forum for researchers interested in SIIDs experienced
when interacting with mobile devices to share their expertise and insights
on SIIDs
(2) identify existing research gaps and new directions for future research
(3) ideate solutions that mitigate the effects of SIIDs when using
interactive technology
(4) create and strengthen a collaborative network that will span several
continents

To accomplish this, our workshop will include lightning presentations,
focus groups activities, a panel discussion, exploring scenarios, a town
hall meeting, and an evening dinner.

**** Submission instructions ****
To apply to the workshop, please submit a paper (MAXIMUM of 8 pages
including references in the CHI Extended Abstract format) on (or before) 12
February 2019 to [log in to unmask] with “Workshop submission” as
the email subject.

We have several main topics of interest:
(1) Understanding - studies that help us understand the effects of SIIDs on
behaviour
(2) Sensing - technologies for detecting people and environments
(3) Modelling - modelling the user or the environment
(4) Adapting - approaches for adapting interfaces using sensed data and
models of the user or context to alleviate the effects of SIIDs

The organisers of the workshop will peer-review the submissions for their
significance to the overall workshop themes. Submissions will be judged on
their content, not on their number of pages. If you have any questions,
please do not hesitate to contact us ([log in to unmask]).
