The 5th Computer Science Education Research Conference (CSERC ’16)

co-located with

the 45th Conference of the Southern African Computer Lecturers' Association (SACLA ‘16) http://sacla.cs.up.ac.za/

4-6 July 2016: Pretoria, South Africa

CALL FOR PAPERS

The Computer Science Education Research Conference (CSERC) is an international forum for researchers with interests in all aspects of computer science education. It embraces a broad view of current and future trends in computer science education and aspires to be a lively environment for presenting the latest research results. It convenes yearly, in odd years it is co-located with the NIOC conferences, in even years with a fitting international conference in the field of computer science. In 2016 it co-locates with the Southern African Computer Lecturers' Association (SACLA) conference. SACLA is an informal association of people involved in the teaching of Computer Science and Information Systems at universities throughout Southern Africa. The main activity of SACLA is the annual conference, at which issues concerning teaching and research in ICT in Southern Africa are discussed.

Papers presented at CSERC will normally address aspects of computing education, that is, the education of students who are studying computing. CSERC 2016 will accept paper submissions within the domain of computing and computing engineering education, papers might cover

· specific educational subject matter, such as programming, database systems, or computer security

· specific groups of students, such as first years, masters students, women, minorities, etc.

· broader topics, such as curriculum, groupwork, or class infrastructure

Types of paper accepted might include

· experience reports describing a classroom innovation and an assessment of its impact

· software reports describing tools developed for learning or assessment in computing

· research reports describing projects undertaken to investigate aspects of computing education

Preparing and Submitting Manuscripts

· Full papers are limited up to 12 pages.

·         The format for the papers can be found on the acm-website;

· Papers can be submitted using Easychair: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=cserc16

· Documents proposed for conference presentation should be high quality, unpublished, original work and submitted on-line.

· The official language of the conference is English.

· Papers submitted for presentation at the conference are reviewed by the program committee.

 Authors of papers presented at the conference will be invited to produce a final version of the paper, which takes into account the discussions that were held during the conference. These final versions of the papers will be published in the ACM Digital library.

At least one co-author of every accepted paper must register for the event and present the paper. CSERC 2016 attendants will be allowed to attend and present at the co-located SACLA 2016 conference. Double-submission of the same paper to CSERC 2016 and SACLA 2016 is not allowed. If, however, an accepted author of CSERC 2016 has a different paper accepted at SACLA 2016, he/she need only register for CSERC 2016 to present his/her additional paper at SACLA 2016.

The conference will be hosted at Cullinan. This little village has managed to hold on to much of its mine village character - its historic stone and corrugated iron mine workers’ houses, offices and churches give visitors a throwback to the mining times of the early 1900s. It is located 30 kilometres east of Pretoria, one of South Africa’s three capital cities. Cullinan is a charming tourist destination. More information about the village and surrounding attractions can be found at http://www.cullinan.za.net/

The conference program will include optional social events to explore tourist attractions in and near Cullinan. Interested attendees from abroad may contact Vreda Pieterse <[log in to unmask]> regarding additional organised South African tours for CSERC attendees at special prices before/after the conference.
