Sixth International Conference on Multimodal
Interfaces(ICMI'04)

Sponsored by ACM
The Sixth International Conference on Multimodal Interfaces (ICMI'04)
will be held October 13-15, 2004 at the Atherton Hotel and the School of
Information Sciences Technology Building at the Pennsylvania State
University. The conference, sponsored by ACM, will bring together
academia, industry and government agencies to present and discuss the
latest multidisciplinary work on multimodal interfaces, systems, and
applications. ICMI'04 is the foremost international conference
representing the growing interest in next-generation perceptive,
adaptive and multimodal user interfaces, which are transforming the
nature of human-computer interaction by creating more natural,
expressively powerful, flexible and robust means of interacting with
computers.
To encourage student participation at this year's ICMI 2004, we plan to
hold a Doctoral Spotlight session for students to present work not
mature enough for presentation as a regular paper. Presentation would be
in poster form in a special session, with structured feedback from a
committee of senior researchers. Additionally, we expect to be able to
offer student travel support for a limited number of Doctoral Spotlight
participants. The number and amount of travel support grants will depend
on available funding for this program. If more there are more applicants
to the spotlight program than available space, participants will be
selected based on proximity to finishing their PhD and relevance of the
research area. Travel support awards will be selected based on these
criteria and inability to otherwise fund participation.
To apply to this year's Doctoral Spotlight program, submit a one-page
abstract including your name, thesis title, contact information, advisor
name, department, and expected degree date, via
[log in to unmask] by July 9 (11:59 pm, EDT), 2004.
The ACM style guide and submission details, can be found at on the
conference web site: http://www.icmiplace.org. To apply for travel
support, please also include a one page letter requesting such support
and stating what level of travel support from your home institution is
otherwise available. Doctoral spotlight participants will be notified by
July 28th; travel support awards will be made not earlier than that
date.
Topics of interest to the conference include:
- multimodal input and output interfaces using modalities such as
speech, vision, natural language, gesture, gaze, audio, haptics, and
pen-based techniques.
- multimodal architectures.
- multimodal fusion and multisensory integration.
- cognitive modeling of users.
- multibiometric interfaces.
- universal access interfaces.
- multimodal wearable/mobile systems.
- attentive and attentional interfaces.
- system evaluation.
- tools and system infrastructure for multimodal interfaces.
- and applications of multimodal interfaces.
