Conference Announcement and Preliminary Call for Papers: IEEE AVSS 2006

Sydney, Australia, 22-24 November 2006 -
http://conferences.computer.org/avss06/

Dear Colleague,

You are cordially invited to submit a paper to IEEE AVSS 2006, the IEEE
International Conference on Advanced Video and Signal based Surveillance
2006 to be held in Sydney, Australia, on 22-24 November 2006.

AVSS is the IEEE conference series on video and signal based surveillance.
It welcomes contributions in traditional disciplines such as image
processing, video processing, signal processing, audio processing, pattern
recognition, and computer vision, but it also gives unique emphasis to
cross-disciplinary and visionary papers. AVSS targets participation from
the worlds of research, industry, and relevant government agencies,
offering them the opportunity to meet and foster collaboration. This
conference series was started in 1998 in Genoa. Following meetings held in
Kingston, UK, in 2001, Miami in 2003 and Como, Italy, in 2005 have seen
increasing levels of participation and have established AVSS as a forum of
reference for the field. AVSS 2006 will be held in Sydney, a beautiful and
vibrant city boasting one of the most spectacular harbours in the world.
The month of November typically enjoys pleasant, warm weather with average
maximum temperatures around 24-25 °C.

High-quality contributions are sought on underlying theory, methods,
systems, and applications. The list of topics of interest includes, but is
not limited to:

* Object-background segmentation
* Motion detection and object tracking
* Object classification and recognition
* Gesture and action recognition
* Activity monitoring
* Interaction modelling
* Behaviour analysis
* Video analysis and event recognition
* Threat assessment
* Face detection and recognition
* Multi-camera calibration
* 3D vision for surveillance applications
* Pattern recognition for surveillance applications
* Statistical methods and learning
* Heterogeneous sensor processing
* Multi-sensor data fusion
* Sensor networks for surveillance applications
* Omnidirectional vision
* Infrared imaging
* Chemical/biological signal processing
* Audio surveillance
* Performance evaluation of surveillance systems
* Perceptual interfaces
* Visualization tools for surveillance applications
* Military applications
* Civilian applications
* Image and video archival and retrieval
* Digital watermarking
* Hardware and software architectures
