** Call for Video Submissions **

                              ACM CHI'98
Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems
                   "Making the Impossible Possible"
                          April 18-23, 1998
                         Los Angeles, CA USA

            http://www.acm.org/sigchi/chi98/call/videos.html

The CHI 98 Video Program is an opportunity to present work that relies
on dynamic presentation. Videos can address any area of HCI including
visual design, innovative interaction techniques, multimedia,
usability testing and design techniques. In keeping with the CHI 98
conference theme, "Making the Impossible Possible," particularly
appropriate topics this year include technologies that solve
previously unsolvable problems, novel interaction paradigms and HCI in
developing countries.

Video submissions in the three application domains of education,
entertainment and health care are also particularly encouraged.
Videos are also an ideal medium for presenting visions of the future.
We encourage submissions of this type which go beyond the domains
of office work and western life-style aspirations. We are looking
for well researched portrayals of possible forms and functions of
computing technology in a wide variety of cultures, activities and
environments together with a diversity of user populations. In the
spirit of the conference this might include ideas about how new
technologies might address currently impossible problems.

Review Process

Videos will be reviewed by international experts. Accepted videos will
be selected on the basis of their interest to members of the
human-computer interaction community, their technical content and how
well they communicate the purpose and impact of the work. They must
also have suitable production quality.

Video Format

For detailed and current information on submissions and content please
see the main CHI98 video submission www pages:
  http://www.acm.org/sigchi/chi98/call/videos.html

Videos should be from 2 to 8 minutes in length. Stricter acceptance
criteria will be applied to videos exceeding 8 minutes.

Assistance

The Videos Co-Chairs have put together a "Guide to Successful Video
Submissions" to help authors create the best video possible:
  http://www.acm.org/sigchi/chi98/call/video-guide.html

Acceptance

Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection by early-November
1997.
