CSCW Workshop for Authors in China
Tsinghua University, June 23 2010

The ACM Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) will
be held in Hangzhou China March 19-23, 2011. CSCW is a premier venue
for presenting research in the design and use of technologies that
affect groups, organizations, and communities. Appropriate topic
areas for CSCW include all contexts in which technology is used to
mediate human activities such as communication, coordination,
cooperation, competition, entertainment, education, medicine, art,
music, and play. The technology may include: email, instant
messaging, blogs, social media, shared workspaces, teleconferencing,
games, co-located systems, robotics, and emerging technologies. More
details can be found at http://cscw2011.org/

We are organizing a writing workshop on June 23rd, 2010 at Tsinghua
University in Beijing, in order to inform authors in China about the
CSCW conference and to provide guidance about writing papers for this
conference.

Workshop organization: The workshop will have two parts. In the
morning, there will be a large group presentation in which we
describe CSCW and other ACM conferences, the kinds of papers that can
be submitted, and the general review process. In the afternoon,
there will be small group writing sessions with a native
English-speaking mentor from the CSCW community.

Participation: The morning session is open to anyone who would like
to attend. The afternoon session is reserved for people who are
trying to prepare papers to submit to CSCW 2011. To participate in
the afternoon sessions, people will need to submit either an abstract
or a complete draft of a paper of the work they will submit to CSCW
2011. Abstracts should include a description of the topic of the
work, a description of what was done (e.g. building a tool, running a
study) and a description of results so far. Full papers can include
papers previously rejected from CSCW or other conferences.

Mentors: Mentors will be prominent members of the CSCW community,
who have published many papers at the conference. Mentors will
include:

Dr. Wendy Kellogg, IBM Research
Prof. James Landay, University of Washington and MSRA
Dr. John Thomas, IBM Research,
Prof. Susan Fussell, Cornell University
Dr. John Tang, Microsoft Research

All mentors are experienced at helping non-native English speaking
authors fine tune their papers for the CSCW audience. Each mentor
will work with a group of 3-5 participants on their CSCW submissions.
Each group will also be joined by a bilingual English-Chinese
facilitator with experience writing CSCW papers.

Facilitators will include:

Chen Zhao, Microsoft Research Asia
Qin Lin Liao, IBM China Research Laboratory
Yingxin Pan, IBM China Research Laboratory
Liu Ying, Nokia Research Center Beijing

Registration: Registration costs will be 200 RMB for CCF or ACM
members; 300 RMB for non-members. To register, please visit the CCF
website (please note this site is in Chinese):
