        AVI 2006 Workshop
    Context in Advanced Interfaces
*************************************************

        Call for Papers

WORKSHOP WEBSITE
http://hci.icts.sbg.ac.at/context/avi/

IMPORTANT DATES
Workshop date: May 23 2006, in conjunction with AVI 2006, Venice, Italy
Position papers due: March 24, 2006
Notification of acceptance: April 7, 2006

OBJECTIVES
The goal of the workshop is to raise discussions on the current
understanding and relevance, various subtopics, and leverage a share of
experiences among people addressing various aspects of context from
different perspectives, e.g. human-computer interaction, intelligent
interfaces, graphical interfaces, virtual interfaces, ambient environments.
The approach is multidisciplinary and we suggest to consider: psychology,
cognitive science, communication science, design, etc., in order to
individuate novel approaches, methodologies and applications.

TOPICS
Topics include, but are not limited to:
    * Understanding and defining context
    * Context factors and features, including social, psychological,
cultural and other factors
    * Acquiring contextual information from user interaction (e.g.
geographical, emotional, physical)
    * Appropriate context modeling (actual models and enhancements)
    * Human-centric user modeling for mobile and ubiquitous interfaces
    * Interaction and interface design for context-aware mobile and
ubiquitous applications (e.g. context for humans in motion)
    * Context aware user interfaces
    * Representation of contextual information and related semantics
    * Impact of context on user experience
    * Methods to study context (e.g. evaluation methods) in diverse settings
    * Privacy and security issues
    * Smart and novel use of context in interactive applications with
advanced interfaces

CALL FOR PAPERS
Please submit position papers which:
    * are 2-4 pages, following the ACM SIG Proceedings Format
    * describe your work in this area and your perspective regarding the
goals of the workshop
    * include two questions you would most like addressed in the workshop
    * include a brief biographical sketch, and if you are part of a research
group, briefly state the mission or focus of the group

Papers can be co-authored, and should be submitted as a PDF by March 24,
2006 to Kris Mihalic ([log in to unmask]) or Marco Combetto
([log in to unmask]).

All position papers will be reviewed. Submissions will be selected on the
basis of the significance of the work presented and with respect to how well
they will help reach the aim of the workshop. We will try to create a good
mix of people looking at the topic from different perspectives. Space
permitting, we will allow multiple attendees for co-authored papers.
Publication (and workshop) language is English.
