———————
Immersive technologies have opened many opportunities for communities in HCI, visual analytics, data visualisation, and other related research areas. However, despite an emerging focus on immersive analytics research, there is currently a lack of coherent and broadly applicable visualisation and interaction designs in order to make immersive analytics systems productive and usable in real world scenarios. In this workshop, we aim to identify a road-map towards productive user interfaces for immersive analytics. In particular we aim to understand how we can effectively support specific visualisation and analytics tasks in VR/AR, and identify the interactions needed to support these. Our goal is to catalyse the research community and lead toward a reference paper to inform future research.
Previous IA workshops: 2016 (ACM ISS) <https://groups.inf.ed.ac.uk/vishub/immersiveanalytics/archive/iss2016/>, 2017 (IEEE VIS) <https://aviz.fr/~bbach/immersiveanalytics/>, 2019 (ACM CHI) <https://ialab.it.monash.edu/2019/01/chi-2019-workshop-on-immersive-analytics-interaction-design-and-prototyping-for-immersive-analytics/>
Call for papers

Over the last several years, a growing Immersive Analytics research community has produced a number of system prototypes, user studies, use cases, and toolkits that show the potential of immersive technologies to promote human data understanding. It is now time to take a step back to define a broader road map that will help move forward toward truly productive interfaces envisioned by the community at large.

This workshop will aim to identify the key productivity challenges for data-centric, immersive systems. Through a series of engaging, interlinked group activities, participants will identify future challenges, which will be documented as a reference for future collaborations.

We invite the submission of 2-6 page position papers that address key challenges related to productive user interfaces for immersive analytics, for instance:

New UI paradigms
Adapting existing productivity applications to immersive environments
Embodied interaction and multimodal input
Collaborative analytics
Situated and spatial visualisation and analytics
Prototyping tools and techniques for AR/VR
Best practices for spatial interaction and prototyping
Evaluation methods for immersive systems
Social acceptability of interaction with immersive platforms
Human factors including awareness, distraction, and cognitive load
Multimodal input
Users and scenarios
Workflows and contexts
Papers should be formatted in the CHI extended abstracts format and submitted via the workshop website. Accepted papers will be chosen based on their potential for contributing to discussions and distributed to participants prior to the workshop. At least one author of each accepted position paper must attend the workshop and must register for both the workshop and for at least one day of the conference. More information is available on the workshop website: http://immersive-analytics.com

Location

The workshop is part of CHI 2020 in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. See the official CHI website <https://chi2020.acm.org/for-attendees/> for travel information.

Information about the room will be posted here.
