*Tools for Mobile Multimedia Programming and Development*

Editors:
Assoc. Prof. Dian Tjondronegoro
Queensland University of Technology, Australia

*Call for Chapters:
*Proposals Submission Deadline: March 15, 2012
Full Chapters Due: June 13, 2012

Introduction
Rapid proliferation of mobile devices, as the emerging platform for people
to work, socialize and play, has created many new opportunities to develop
innovative research solutions. For multimedia researchers, smart phones and
tablets are the ultimate multi-modal devices, equipped with high-quality
camera, high-speed mobile Internet connectivity, and embedded sensors.
Currently available resources to develop in mobile platforms have mainly
been focusing on teaching general skills to equip aspiring programmers to
develop applications that are ready to sell. Such books may not be relevant
for researchers, as they need to primarily learn how to develop prototypes
for testing and evaluation purposes, instead of a product. On the other
hand, multimedia researchers usually require certain depths of knowledge on
using specific components and tools for their research projects, such as
image processing, objects recognition, sensors processing, and logging user
interactions.

Objective of the Book
This book aims to provide an intersection between the latest research
findings in the area of mobile multimedia, and the latest tools for
developing prototypes for testing and evaluating theoretical frameworks. A
particular focus will be given on understanding how to use mobile platforms
for research development projects. The book will be written from the
perspective of researchers who work in mobile platforms, and will share
their case studies, tips, and tricks to quick start researchers' skills to
develop on the emerging mobile platforms.

Target Audience
The target audience of this book will be composed of professionals and
researchers working in multiple disciplines, especially in mobile
multimedia fields, which will benefit the most from the techniques on how
to rapidly develop prototypes for image, video, audio, and other sensors
related research projects in emerging mobile devices.

Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

Latest findings in the area of mobile multimedia research:
· Multimedia capture, storage, and visualization applications, such
as in health and infotainment domain
· Context-aware applications, including life-log, and ambient
intelligence

Survey and case studies in using the latest frameworks, techniques, and
tools for rapid prototyping in mobile platforms for testing and evaluating
research theoretical framework:
· Image/video analysis, such as face detection, using mobile tools,
such as Open CV.
· Mobile sensing: using mobile devices to collect research data, e.g.
tracking user's interactions
· Using mobile sensors to simplify user interactions and motivate
participations during user studies

Submission Procedure
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before 15 March
2012, a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the mission and
concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will
be notified by 15 April 2012, about the status of their proposals and sent
chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by 30 June
2012. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review
basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this
project.

Publisher
This book is scheduled to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group
Inc.), publisher of the “Information Science Reference” (formerly Idea
Group Reference), “Medical Information Science Reference,” “Business
Science Reference,” and “Engineering Science Reference” imprints. For
additional information regarding the publisher, please visit
