CALL FOR PAPERS - Brazilian Symposium on Collaborative Systems
October, 15-18 2012.
Sγo Paulo, SP, Brazil
Promovido pela Sociedade Brasileira de Computaηγo (SBC)
Website: http://sws2012.ime.usp.br/sbsc/presentation.php
The Brazilian Symposium on Collaborative Systems (SBSC) is an annual event promoted by the Brazilian Computer Society that aims to discuss the development and use of tools to support human collaboration. Examples of collaborative systems include social networks, collaborative software development environments, file sharing systems, virtual worlds, cooperative editors, wikis, knowledge management systems, and communication tools, like videoconference and blogs. As these systems are largely spread, theoretical and empirical studies of techniques, technologies, and models relevant for the development and use of collaborative systems are increasingly important.
In its 9th year, the SBSC has become an important forum for researchers, students and professionals to discuss issues, techniques, solutions, innovations and experiences on this multidisciplinary area. This involves multiple perspectives, the development and evaluation of collaborative systems, investigation of how collaboration occurs in practice and the implementation of collaborative systems in different areas.
Authors are invited to submit original scientific papers about development and evaluation of collaborative systems, and theories, models and empirical studies relevant to the design, use and impacts of collaborative systems in teams, organizations, communities and the society.
IMPORTANT DATES
Paper Submission: June 22nd
Notification of acceptance: July 29th
Camera Ready Submission: August 12th
TOPICS OF INTEREST
The research on collaborative systems covers multiple areas of computer sciences, such as Software Engineering, Database, Artificial Intelligence, Information Systems, Human-Computer Interaction, Multimedia Systems and Distributed Systems. It also includes knowledge from other sciences such as Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Education and Linguistics.
The list of topics includes, but is not limited to:

- Social networks, groups, virtual communities
- Technologies for collaboration in the Web 2.0
TYPES OF SUBMISSIONS
Full Technical Paper
Full papers of 6-8 pages that present ideas, theories, models, original experimental results, or other technical contributions to Collaborative Systems research. The papers will be evaluated according to its relevance, originality, and presentation quality.
Papers are expected to clearly present a research problem and its motivation, the proposed solution, evaluation method, results and appropriate comparison to related works. It is also expected that the motivation and tools main features are clearly presented. Evaluation results on the use of the tool or system, if available, are also appreciated.
If the study involves quantitative analysis of experimental data, it is requested that the data are made available on a webpage specified in body of the manuscript, removing people and institutions identification from the data, when appropriate. Data availability facilitates the review process and, after the paper publication, enables replication, extension, or results comparison by other researchers.
The best papers will be invited to submit extended versions to a journal.
Short Papers
Short papers (2-4 pages) that present on-going research are also welcome. A short paper should include the description of the motivation, goal, proposal, the research methodology and, if available, some preliminary results.
SUBMISSION INFORMATION
Papers can be written in Portuguese or English. Authors must follow the ACM template to prepare the papers. The guidelines are available at http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates. The number of pages must comply with the minimum and maximum limits defined for each submission category, including title, authors information, abstract, sections, figures, tables, references and appendices. Papers must be original, not simultaneously submitted to or previously published in any other scientific or technical vehicle.
