The Sixth Asia-Pacific Conference on Computer-Human Interaction (APCHI
2004) will take place at the Royal Lakeside Novotel Hotel, Rotorua, New
Zealand from June 30th to July 2nd 2004. It will also incorporate the
5th SIGCHI NZ Symposium on Computer Human Interaction.

APCHI 2004 is the sixth regional HCI conference for the Asia-Pacific
region and provides a unique opportunity within the region to keep
abreast of the latest developments in the area. It attracts researchers
and practitioners from around the world and with a wide range of
interests, including human factors and ergonomics, human-computer
interaction, information systems, software engineering, artificial
intelligence, design, social sciences and management and associated
disciplines.

APCHI 2004 will bring together HCI scholars, engineers and computer
practitioners in business and industry to present and discuss their
latest work, exchange and share their experiences, and explore new ideas
and research results on all aspects of Computer-Human Interaction.

We are delighted to confirm Don Norman (www.jnd.org) and Susan Dray
(www.dray.com) as keynote speakers.

Rotorua (www.rotoruanz.com) is a world-renowned area of geothermal
activity and natural beauty located in the heart of the North Island of
New Zealand It offers a vast range of attractions and activities for
visitors such as natural thermal spas, geothermal parks, insights into
the Maori culture, fishing, and adventure sports; and easy access to
nearby wine regions, ski fields and volcanic national parks.

The Royal Lakeside Novotel (www.hotelsnewzealand.com/rotorua/lakeside)
is located in the heart of Rotorua on the shores of Lake Rotorua, with
views over the lake and surrounding countryside.


Conference topics:
----------------------------

Contributions that advance any area of CHI research and practice are
invited. Suggested topics are presented in the following list, but other
appropriate topics are welcome:

*           HCI in mobile, ubiquitous and pervasive computing contexts
*           HCI in the home
*           HCI theories, methods and practice
*           perceptual and adaptive user interfaces
*           interaction design for people with disabilities
*           user interface software tools, architectures and
technologies
*           case studies of HCI and interface design in practice
*           interaction techniques and devices, including pen, gesture,
speech, and virtual and augmented realities
*           psychological aspects of HCI
*           user interface design for information retrieval systems
*           user interfaces for information visualization
*           user interfaces and culture, internationalisation and
localization
*           HCI and education

Submissions:
---------------------

Submissions are invited in the following categories: full papers,
tutorials, workshops, doctoral consortium.

Papers should be up to 10 pages in length, must report original work,
and must not have been previously published.

Tutorial proposals must provide the following information: duration
(full or half-day tutorial), learning objectives of the tutorial,
material to be covered, how the tutorial will be conducted, required
materials, relevance to conference attendees, and some sample tutorial
content.

Workshop proposals must provide the following information: workshop
topic, call for participation (suitable for inclusion in the advance
programme), how the workshop will be conducted, and its relevance to
conference attendees. There will be a workshop organiser stipend and
other benefits - contact us for further details.

The doctoral consortium will provide a stimulating environment for
students to discuss their work in an interdisciplinary workshop with
distinguished researchers and other students. Submissions must include:
a two page extended abstract describing the thesis work, including the
title, author, abstract, keywords and references; a supporting letter
from the research supervisor; and statement indicating what the student
wishes to gain from the consortium. We plan to provide some funding to
help students attend - contact us for more information.

Submissions in all categories must be in English.
All submissions will be double-blind refereed by an international review
committee.
Accepted submissions will appear in the final published conference
proceedings.

1st March 2004 response to authors
2nd April 2004   deadline for final camera-ready submissions


Submission instructions
------------------------------------

APCHI 2004 is running a double-blind review process for full papers.
Reviewers will not be aware of the identity of the authors of the papers
that they consider, and authors will no know who reviewed their
submission.

For the full paper category, identifying characteristics should be
removed from the body of the paper for the anonymous reviewing process.
Insert notes to indicate where text has been removed for this purpose.

All submissions must be in PDF or Postscript format. If this is
impossible for you, please contact the Programme Chair via the email
below.

Submissions in all categories must be made via the web-based submission
system. To access the system, follow the link "Submissions" on the
conference home page (www.apchi2004.org.nz).
