Dear CHI97 attendees,

  Good news!  As many of you know, registrants for the CHI conference
will, for the first time, ALL receive a copy of the CHI97 Video.
However, your help is needed to establish the principle that future
CHI conferences will give the CHI video to all registrants.

  We believe that the conference Videos are intellectually creative
contributions that are confirmed by a thorough refereeing process and
that attendees should expect to receive all refereed items for their
registration fee.  We believe further that the Videos are an essential
medium for conveying user interface designs, and helpful in education,
research, and professional settings. Finally, the hard-working
producers of videos also want to know that their work is widely
disseminated to their colleagues, just like the other refereed
contributions.


  We know there are costs in running a conference, but when mass
produced the cost of the Videos is low.  If you agree that the Videos
should be given to all registrants, then please:

    Let the CHI98, CHI Executive, and Conference Management Committees
    know your feelings at the CHI Business Meeting, on the conference
    feedback forms, or by email ([log in to unmask], [log in to unmask],
    [log in to unmask]).  They would especially appreciate offers of help
    to formulate a complete policy.

Also we encourage you to have your libraries and organizations purchase
additional copies and to reference the videos in your future work.
