The Past and Future of Human-Computer Interaction

If you have registered for CHI, you can easily add a Course for $25.

How does HCI fit into today's new era alongside Artificial Intelligence, Modern Design, Internet of Things, Design Science, and the related fields of Human Factors, Information Systems, and Information Science? Technology changes, new focus areas appear, methods shift to keep pace, yet many of our basic activities and behaviors change slowly if at all. Understanding trajectories from the past, discussing what they suggest for the future, will provide something to reflect on through the conference.

The slides, mostly timelines and images, will be available to attendees before the conference. This course<https://chi2019.acm.org/accepted-courses/#preparing-future-hci> (C05) is based on the book From Tool to Partner: The Evolution of Human-Computer Interaction. Attendees will get free online access to the book and five copies will be given away.

See you in Glasgow!

Jonathan Grudin
