CARS2007 is a 2 day workshop that is being held in Preston, UK. The 2 days
will be taken up with a text input event and a design event, both focused
around interactions with children.

WORKSHOP 1 - Computer Text and Children
---------------------------------------

This workshop is first of two, one-day workshops organised.  The workshop
focuses on input and manipulation of text into PC-based application by
children of varying age and input devices.

Work that addresses any aspect of text input & manipulation with children
will be considered, but we particularly welcome contributions that address
the following themes:
- Measuring performance of children on text input devices
- Studies on how children manipulate text
- New text input devices
- Innovative use of input device in software
- Enhancing children’s learning by text input devices

In particular we are looking for work-in-progress papers on the following
devices:
- Keyboards
- Keypads (not mobile phones)
- Digital Pens
- Stylus input in mobile devices
- Pen input in tablet PCs

WORKSHOP 2 - Design and Children
--------------------------------

This workshop is second of two, one-day workshops organised.
The workshop focuses on design methods and approaches in designing
technologies for children, especially when children, as users, are engaged
during the design process.

We are aiming to bring together researchers and practitioners to share
their knowledge and experiences through constructive discussion and
practical activities.
The workshop will consist of:
- A morning session, where participants will present and discuss their work
- An afternoon session, with a hands-on design session where participants
will have the chance to apply and test existing or novel design methods,
followed by a reflective discussion

We welcome contributions from academics and professionals in the field of
designing technology for and with children.
Submissions are encouraged to fall in one of the two possible categories:
- Position paper (1 page) describing research interest and expertise in
the field
- Methodological paper (up to 4 pages), describing your design practice,
preferred methods and approaches, reporting on completed or ongoing
relevant projects

Work that addresses any aspect of designing with children will be
considered, but we particularly welcome contributions that address the
following areas:
- Low-tech prototype
- Participatory design with children
- Novel design methods
- Requirements gathering
- Cultural/technological probes
