Analyzing text documents has become increasingly an important part of decision making in large corporations, small businesses, and households. The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and industry practitioners interested in text visualization, text analytics, and visual analytics, to define the emerging fields of visual text analytics, and to discuss ideas, techniques, and applications to support decision making in different domains.


Topics:
We invite paper submissions that address any topic related to visual text analytics and application domains especially how interactive visual text analytics can facilitate decision making. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

· Visual and interaction design for text analytics
· Visual representation, structure, metaphors for text
· Perception and cognition in text visualizations
· Systems, languages, and architectures for text analytics
· Methodologies, processes for visual text analysis
· Collaborative analysis of text corpora
· Real-time visualization of streaming text data
· Visual text analytics in social media
· Industry-specific applications of visual text analytics (e.g. Retail, Healthcare, Government, etc.)
· Studies of analytic work on document collections
· Evaluation of visualization techniques; Metrics and bench-marks
· Datasets and tasks for visual text analytics to facilitate decision making
· Representations of uncertainty in text analytics

Submission:
We are looking for research and industry papers related to visual text analytics with a focus on facilitating human decision making. Papers are limited to 4 pages. A subset of the accepted papers will be invited for a 15 minute (plus 5 minutes for questions) oral presentation at the workshop. All other accepted papers will be presented as posters during the poster session. Papers must be formatted according to VisWeek format (see <http://www.cs.sfu.ca/~vis/Tasks/camera_tvcg.html> http://www.cs.sfu.ca/~vis/Tasks/camera_tvcg.html)..Papers must be submitted by email to the conference organizers ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) by September 2, 2011<x-apple-data-detectors://7>. Final versions of the papers are due September 30, 2011<x-apple-data-detectors://8>.

The program will also include a madness session at the beginning of the workshop to allow anyone attending the workshop to briefly introduce themselves, their work, and state their positions and goals related to the scope of the workshop. If you are planning to attend the workshop you are welcome to send an email to conference organizers to ensure a slot in the madness session by Oct 10, 2011<x-apple-data-detectors://9>.
