Dear colleagues,
dear friends of ESSV,

the 31st Conference on Electronic Speech Signal Processing (ESSV) will
take place (for the first time) at the Otto-von-Guericke-University
Magdeburg, Germany: http://www.essv.de/essv2020/

This time the ESSV has the motto "*inside speech*" to honour the
increasing use of the speech signal as an acoustic information carrier.

There will also be a free half-day ITG workshop on "Voice Assistants
Applications, Implications, Developments", which will also take place in
Magdeburg on 3 March (day before the ESSV):
http://itg-sprachassistenz-md-2020.cogsy.de/

The ESSV Conference covers a wide range of areas in speech processing.
We invite you to contribute to the following topics which will be
presented as oral paper presentations, poster sessions, and demo sessions:

• "inside speech" – speech as information carrier
• multi -odal dialog systems
• multi-user interactions
• speech recognition and natural language understanding
• speech synthesis and natural language generation
• measuring, processing, and modeling articulation
• phonetic, syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic aspects in technical
applications
• models of speech acquisition
• acoustic and visual pattern recognition
• musical, biological, and technical signals – applications and
processing
• applications in medical, healthcare, and rehabilitation technologies
• cognitive and neural systems
• speech technology in industrial and home environments

We welcome contributions on related topics, as well as progress reports
or theoretical discussions.
The conference will be held in German and English. Moreover, delegates
from research, industry, and
public institutions are welcome without submitted papers, as are
interested students. All submissions
will appear in conference proceedings published in the series
“Studientexte zur Sprachkommunikation”
by TUDpress.

Important dates:

• Conference: March 4–6, 2020
• Abstract submission deadline (1 page): November 18, 2019
• Notification of acceptance: until December 17, 2019
• Camera-ready paper submission deadline: January 24, 2020
• Early registration deadline: January 31, 2020

We are looking forward to welcoming you to Magdeburg in March 2020, and
to receiving many exciting contributions!

Best regards,
Ronald Böck, Ingo Siegert, Andreas Wendemuth
