This is a neat question and one that will be increasingly important.

My simple answer is that technology is a constraint on design. Creativity
and innovation in this context is about meeting user needs within
constraints.

However the question has much broader implications. As it was framed it
assumes a single platform ie a website. Increasingly however (and this
actually the case at the moment) users are using multiple platforms and
information sources for single tasks. In the future it may be possible to
access the net along with mobile communications while driving for example.
The issue now becomes how to design integrated information displays across
multiple platforms -information related to the car; information from a
satellite navigation device, mobile communications and the net. This is one
example... I'm sure people can think of a range of other contexts home,
office, waiting for buses etc where information integration to support
higher order goals/tasks becomes the key design challenge. How well equipped
are we in dealing with this

Subject: How technologies affect UI Design

Hi All,

I was wondering if someone can throw some light on how does the technology
affect the ui design?? i mean if the technology is Java, struts, webshpere
etc... how does it affect a user experience designer's or ui designer's
design??and what technological knowledge a user experience designer or ui
designer needs to have???
